"Crazy" - which was their first single - debuted at #1 on the British pop charts on April 2, 2006. It was the first #1 UK single to be obtained solely through Internet downloads. The success of the single in the UK was due largely to its use in a promotional trailer for Radio 1 across all of the BBC TV channels prior to the single's release. 'Crazy' stayed at #1 for almost 9 weeks.
The buzz for "Crazy" helped generate a lot of press coverage of their debut album, St. Elsewhere, which was released on May 9, 2006.
The album is seen as a cross-over between hip-hop, rock and soul. Both artists have previously been known to have a quirky experimental side, moving between different genres of music.
Producer DJ Danger Mouse began his career doing remixes of indie rock artists like Neutral Milk Hotel and downbeat instrumental music under the 'Pelican City' alias. He later went on to emphasize more hip-hop production: most notably his The Grey Album, a remix of Black Album, with samples exclusively from The White Album; 2005's Dangerdoom collaboration with MF Doom; and, most recently, the double platinum Demon Days.
Gnarls Barkley singer Cee Lo Green started out in the classic Southern rap group Goodie Mob, but later developed a unique funk-inspired soulful style of singing which developed on his solo albums.
Their new album The Odd Couple was released March 18, 2008.

While I yell unique
Aaaaah, let me show you right here
Heeeeeeey, aaaahaaaaahaaa
Ooooh, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm well on my way
I'm almost everything
You make me want to say
I'm freeee! Look at me!
Behold everything I'm allowed to see
Freeee,! Come and see
Na, na, na, na, na na na
The shapeless, formless, heart is enormous
Bore this, I've worn this, no never what the norm is
Come hear this, it's fearless
Contrast, color, prisms, so warmin'
Listen and love it
I'm freeee! Look at me!
Freedom in hi-fidelity
Freeee! Come and see
Na, na, na, na, na na na
What you waitin' on?
I won't ask your, passion, smilin', laughin'
Yieldin', feelin', helpin', healin'
Introduce your neighbor to your saviour
I'm freeee! Look at me!
Freedom in hi-fidelity
Freeee!
Na, na, na, na, na na na
The lyrics to Gnarls Barkley's song Go Gadget Gospel express a feeling of liberation and empowerment. The opening lines, "Pump up the peculiar, while I yell unique", suggest that the singer is embracing their individuality and urging others to do the same. The repetition of "I'm freeee!" throughout the chorus reinforces this theme of personal freedom.
The second verse continues this idea, with the singer describing their heart as "shapeless" and "formless", suggesting that they are breaking free of societal expectations and limitations. The lines "Contrast, color, prisms, so warmin'" could be interpreted as a celebration of diversity and the beauty that arises from embracing differences.
The final lines encourage the listener to take action and introduce others to their "savior". This could be interpreted as a call to share the message of personal liberation and empowerment with others.
Overall, the song Go Gadget Gospel is an uplifting anthem of self-expression and individuality. The lyrics urge the listener to embrace their own unique qualities and spread that acceptance and freedom to others.

It's too bad this song wasn't a bigger hit. I always wanted to see a live horn section do this or a college marching band.

Not what I expected based off the song lyrics. But the video is brilliant. The puppets represent the rappers in the music industry. Great satire. Gnarls Barley never disappoints.

This song if proof of Gnarls Barkley's brilliance.
