I Hear You Calling
Gob Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've seen you now about the fourth time baby
But you know that I've got nothing to say
Its so charming to look on your face but your eyes
Inviting something I just can't do now I've been around
About you hood I'm looking for you just to shine some light
On my day feels like ages since I've been out your way
I've been caught up with handful of new sensation
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad, and I know that

I've seen you now about the fifth time baby
But you know that I've got nothing to say
Its so charming to look on your face but your eyes
Inviting something I just can't do now I've been around
About you hood I'm looking for you just to shine some light
On my day feels like ages since I've been out your way
I've been caught up with handful of new sensation

I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
But it's all bad and I know that
But it's all bad and I know that

But it's all bad and I know that
But it's all bad and I know that

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gob's song, "I Hear You Calling" seem to revolve around the recurring appearance of a girl that the singer has met four or five times. Although the singer is mesmerized by her charming face, he feels that her eyes are inviting him to do something he knows he shouldn't. He seems to be struggling with his feelings as he has been "caught up with a handful of new sensation." The chorus "I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night, but it's all bad and I know that" seems to depict his inner turmoil as he is aware that whatever attraction he feels towards the girl can only lead to a bad ending.

The song suggests that the singer is avoiding a temptation he knows is wrong, and he is acknowledging that it may be challenging to resist. The line, "Inviting something I just can't do now" suggests that he knows the dangers and pitfalls of giving in to the temptation. The chorus suggests that although he hears her calling out for him, he knows that he needs to avoid the call and move on with his life.

Overall the lyrics seem to be about the dangers of temptation and negative influences and the importance of recognizing that sometimes you might have to move on from things that can only lead to trouble.

I've literally had this song stuck in my head on and off for 21 years. Out of all the good songs out there, this one is my official ear worm. Love this shit. I miss punk music being popular, skaters, carefree summers, and pre-social media. I miss it a lot. So honored to experience those years. ☺🤭🤟
