1) melodic metalcore band
2) ambient electronic
1) God Forbid was a melodic metalcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey that was formed in 1998. Their style is different than the styles presented by other, popular metalcore bands: God Forbid's influences are deep-rooted in thrash metal. Building up a following in the late 1990s by touring with bands such as Cradle of Filth, Nile, and Candiria, their first full album Reject the Sickness was released by 9 Volt Records in 1999. This album received heavy rotation from WSOU-FM in the New York City area, and the band was subsequently signed to Century Media Records, releasing the album Determination in 2001. They played on the MTV2 Headbanger's Ball tour with Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God. In 2004, they released Gone Forever, which helped increase their status considerably. They supported Machine Head along with Caliban in Nov/Dec of 2004 in the UK. The next year, they released IV: Constitution of Treason, a concept album about the end of the world. In 2005-2006 they supported Trivium on their UK tour along with Mendeed & Bloodsimple.
In 2009, they released a brand-new album, Earthsblood. To promote this album, they went on a tour with August Burns Red, DevilDriver and Anthrax.
Living Nightmare
God Forbid Lyrics

Instructed to degrade
The burden of victory
The bloodlust of a generation
Blood on my hands
Mercy for the weak
Judgement incomplete
My vanity shields me
Monitored to issue control
Widespread propaganda
Masked hidden agenda's
Our eyes receive,
But can't perceive the lies
The lyrics to God Forbid's song Living Nightmare touch upon themes of power, control, and propaganda. The beginning of the song describes those in power being empowered to enslave and instructed to degrade, suggesting a corrupt system that thrives on the suffering of others. The burden of victory and bloodlust of a generation also highlight the idea of violence and aggression being glorified and encouraged.
The following lines reveal a sense of guilt or regret on the part of the singer, with the blood on their hands symbolizing the harm they have caused. However, they still seem to struggle with extending mercy to the weak, perhaps due to societal pressure or a desire to maintain their power. The judgement being incomplete adds to the sense of uncertainty and moral ambiguity.
Moving on to the second verse, the singer's vanity is mentioned as a shield, suggesting that they are more concerned with their own image and reputation than the wellbeing of others. They are also described as monitoring to issue control, which implies that they actively seek to control and manipulate others. Finally, the widespread propaganda and masked hidden agendas suggest a deeper level of manipulation and deception within the system.
The final line, "our eyes receive, but can't perceive the lies," encapsulates the song's overall message of the dangers of those in power using propaganda and manipulation to control the masses. It serves as a warning to stay vigilant and question those in positions of authority.
