1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal.
They had initially named their group Godzilla, but due to legal constraints had to change their name. They therefore chose to re-name their band Gojira - the original Japanese version of their name (in Japanese Gojira means gorilla-whale or gorilla the size of a whale). Some of the content of their music is focused on the ecological effects of human activity on the Earth.
Joe and Mario Duplantier also play in an experimental metal band called Empalot.
In 2007 Joe also became the bass player for former Sepultura members Max and Igor's new project, Cavalera Conspiracy.
2) Canadian powerviolence band existing from 1996-1998 based in Toronto, Ontario.
Yama's Messengers
Gojira Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Infected eyes red, staring at me
The time has come for retribution
Now they're counting my actions
The cries and shouts are confusing me
Falling in disgrace, I don't want to go now
And I am facing them, it seems they recognize me
They're growing darker while approaching me, creeping
Prowling vultures in the sky
Devoured by a ravening beast
Raised, fallen from the dead
Endure the pain they're giving me slow
Flashes of life blurred by suffering
Distant reminder of funeral piles
Thousands of people dying
I'm taking back all the pain distributed
Through ages unconscious
My brain scattered, feed habitants of this cage
Consuming my heart
I've killed so many, I don't want to count
I spent a life raping the world
both far and near before you now I come, please help
creator, faultless one
Yama is a Hindu god of death and in Gojira's song Yama's Messengers, he is portrayed as a vengeful deity who sends his messengers to punish the singer for his wrongdoings. The lyrics depict the singer's terror as Yama's messengers, with their infected and red eyes, arrive to exact retribution for his actions. The singer is filled with regret and confusion as he faces the consequences of his past deeds. He is confronted by the messengers who seem to recognize him, indicating that they have been watching him for some time. As they approach him, they become darker and more ominous, like prowling vultures ready to devour their prey. The messengers inflict slow and painful punishment on him, causing him to recall the thousands of people who have died because of his actions. Ultimately, the singer is consumed by the pain he has distributed through the ages and asks for the creator's forgiveness as he faces death.

The fact that they never played this nugget live is beyond me.
It's a telescopic powerhouse, akin to the march of 100,000 elephants, Joe's voice is heartbreakingly emotional, the lyrics are blood-curdling...hell, it's probably my favourite Gojira song and it sounds like it was made for live performance.
I wonder what could dissuade them from releasing this gem live.

money, actually. I agree with you, but if you're out to perform all over the globe and sell tickets, you have to play

Love this song. It is kind of groovy with the guitars, but Mario with those blast beats and double kicks make it perfect
