Despite favourable reviews and a short-listing for the Mercury Prize, the début studio album Felt Mountain did not chart highly. Goldfrapp's second album Black Cherry, which incorporated glam rock and synthpop sounds, was released in 2003. The album influenced the same dance-oriented sound of their third album Supernature. Supernature took Goldfrapp's work further into dance music, and enjoyed international chart success. The album produced three number-one US dance singles, and was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 49th Grammy Awards.
The fourth album Seventh Tree placed a greater emphasis on ambient and downtempo music, drawing inspiration from nature and paganism, while their fifth album, Head First, found the group exploring 1980s-influenced synthpop. Head First also earned the second Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2010. Goldfrapp released their critically acclaimed sixth studio album, the folktronica-influenced Tales of Us, in September 2013. Goldfrapp released their seventh studio album, Silver Eye, in March 2017, which debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart.

Lyrics
I get high on a buzz
Then a rush when I'm plugged in you
I connect
When I'm flush
You get love when told what to do
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Cover me in you
I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine
I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine
When you send me a pulse
Feel a wave of new love
Through me
I'm dressed in white noise
You know just what I want
So please
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Wonderful electric
Cover me in you
I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine
I'm in love, I'm in love
I'm in love with a strict machine ...

Apparently just enough to get the job done strictly speaking. Yep, lovely tune.

When this came out in 2003 I thought this was going to be WAY bigger than it was. It sounded like a new era for an Eurythmics type of music to take over the mainstream and finally bury the crap we had to put up with in the 90's. But it was just too ahead of its time. Sad how brilliance can get overlooked when the timing is not right.

People are idiots in short.
@truecrimetuesdays9795
I mean it was a top 10 hit !

IDk if that's true, but given a few decades of club and so forth, feels pretty accurate. Like, I know it was '03 and got some play on our (then) badass indie channel, but it would be 6 or more years later, and then it was blowing up at like darkwave night. Not quiiiiite the right venue/theme night, but I'll be damned if it didn't pop. Very wide x-section of subcultures and niches really into it. Weird but solid.
Like '01 when Gorillaz put out "Clint Eastwood". Another club night, industrial-goth Wed, and they play it, and once more, ton of rando punks, skaters, occasional head banger, rivet head, goth, or local hip hop kid were all happy AF. Goldfrapp's a little more accessible, but it's so cool when you see those moments. Like bottled lightning, hard to repeat.
