Darlin'
Goodbye June Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well they're back on my case again
Feels like I ain't got one single friend
Yeah I'm all alone, and I don't know where you went
Sometimes love is not the best thing for you
Sometimes love will bring you to your knees
And your heart it sinks then depletes
You either get up or you lay down and die
But darlin' I don't know what you've done to me
But it works and I hate it
Darlin' I don't know what you've done to me
But it works and I hate it, works and I hate it

She whispers softly in my ear
She's a telling me all the things I want to hear
I turn to respond but she's way far gone
Of course we had dreams together
Dreams I thought would never change
You took the one thing that I loved the most
You took it all away, woah-oh

But darlin' I don't know what you've done to me
But it works and I hate it
Darlin' I don't know what you've done to me
But it works and I hate it, works and I hate it

Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh
Woah-oh-oh, oh, oh

Darlin' I don't know what you've done to me
But it works and I hate it, works and I hate it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Goodbye June's song "Darlin" delve into the complexities of love and heartbreak. The first verse expresses the feeling of isolation that comes with the end of a relationship. The singer feels as though they have no friends left and they are left alone to grapple with the aftermath of the breakup. The chorus repeats the phrase "Darlin' I don't know what you've done to me, but it works and I hate it" which suggests that while there may be some positive aspects to this love, ultimately it has led to pain and suffering.

The second verse introduces a new character, possibly a new love interest, who is whispering sweet nothings in the singer's ear. However, the singer realizes that this connection is fleeting and ultimately unfulfilling. The bridge of the song delves deeper into the pain caused by the breakup with the lyrics "You took the one thing that I loved the most, you took it all away." The song ends with a repeated chorus and multiple choruses layered on top of each other to create a sense of desperation and confusion.

Goodbye June is one of the most unique bands to hit the circuit in a very long time. Their sound is pure, raw and addictive. Tyler Baker is a combination of Hendrix, Page and Slash all smashed into one incredible guitarist along with Brandon Qualkenbush right by his side. Landon Milbourn's vocals come straight from his gut and soul proving that Interscope made a direct hit when they chose GBJ. I had the honor of assisting GBJ get off the ground many moons ago. Proud of you guys.

Mike, this song is just too much. I can't stop thinking about their story and why they are called Goodbye June, just a beautiful piece.

@404maciek

I feel like you're over exaggerating a little bit pal

Glad I ran across this comment, tip of the hat to you sir for helping this great band!! Their new record is excellent, and the the older one "Nor the Wild Music Flow" absolutely blew me away back 2012 when I heard it. If I had known that album was going to disappear I would have purchased a physical copy instead of allowing my streaming service to take it away. I can't believe all those older videos have been scrubbed off YouTube either it's a real shame, I hope they are eventually put back out. I believe they had a pro-shot "live in Germany" type thing with clips of particular songs too.. So anyways, after hearing this new album my soul aches to hear "Out of Your Mind", "Lady Luck", "Man I am"- actually I just want to hear the entire thing! If anyone reading this knows where I could purchase a physical copy of digital download please let me know!!!!

They played this song during the perfect moment on TVD. It's a song that makes it really feel like the end as if they didn't do a good enough job of that already. Some shows don't feel like they're coming to an end when they actually are. TVD was not one of them. A fucking brilliant show. One of the greatest of all fime. No debate.

@yeahnah4303
