Born in East Orange, New Jersey, MacRae made his Broadway debut in the mid-1940s, acquiring his first recording contract soon afterwards. Many of his hit recordings were made with Jo Stafford. It was in 1948 that he appeared in his first film, The Big Punch, a non-musical boxing drama. He soon began an on-screen partnership with Doris Day and appeared with her in several films. In 1953, he starred opposite Kathryn Grayson in the third film version of The Desert Song. This was followed by starring appearances in two major films of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Oklahoma! (1955) and Carousel (1956), both opposite Shirley Jones.

Till the tune ends
We're dancing in the dark and it soon ends
We're waltzing in the wonder of why we're here
Time hurries by, we're here and gone
Looking for the light of a new love
To brighten up the night, I have you love
Dancing in the dark
The song Dancing in the Dark is a romantic tune sung by Gordon MacRae that showcases the emotions of love, hope and the fleeting nature of time. It begins with the couple dancing in the dark, immersed in the tune that gradually comes to an end. The duo is waltzing in the "wonder of why we're here," highlighting their desire to find meaning in their existence. The following lines emphasize the ephemeral nature of life, with time moving quickly, leading us from present to past in a flash.
In the second stanza, the focus shifts to the need for a new love, one that can brighten up the night. MacRae confesses that he has found that love in his partner – "I have you, love." The couple can now face the music together and dance in the dark with the assurance that they have found their way. The song is a reflection of the joy of being in love, the desire to make the most of our time here and the importance of finding the right partner to share our lives with.

Best version I have ever heard,
but switching to a soft falsetto rather than closing forte with
his extraordinary baritone was a
mistake. One that
another immortal
baritone never made, Jim Reeves. Only tenors sound good in falsetto,
and then only when used sparingly. Basically, females
sound FAR better,
particularly as utilized in background choir
arrangements, such as many of
Johnny Mathis' most splendid recordings.

What a brilliant idea! I love the way you paired those clips with the song (and a great song it is at that!), not to mention the clips themselves. An excellent job, my friend! Thank you for putting this together and sharing it with us. :)
