With 2 million albums sold (1 million of which were sold in Switzerland, which only has 7 million habitants), they managed to get multi-platinum awards in different parts of the world.
Influences include Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Aerosmith. Singer Steve Lee is especially fond of Whitesnake and has based his singing style on their lead singer David Coverdale.
Gotthard also performed "Immigrant Song" (originally by Led Zeppelin) live and it featured exclusively on a CD by Classic Rock (a long running monthly UK rock magazine). "Hush" was also performed live and can be found on Made In Switzerland album.
Another cover of a song they have recorded is "The Mighty Quinn", originally called Quinn The Eskimo, by Bob Dylan.
Singer Steve Lee was killed in a motorcycle accident on October 5th 2010. A truck struck him while he was stopped on the side of a desert road in Nevada (USA), putting on rain gear.

Nothing Left At All
Gotthard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Big lies, they always have been told
But right now you face another man
This time I turn the page around
No rhyme, no reason to be found
Why should I play the fool again
I keep on running in circles
I was never taking more than I needed
Always standing at the end of the line
Waiting for my turn to succeed it
But it's hard to keep playing the part
When there's nothing left at all
How come we always run for more
The rich is stealing from the poor
How come we're never satisfied
Don't know what I'm afraid to loose
Somehow I'm not allowed to choose
God knows I've never really tried
And Still we running in circles
In a crazy human race that never ends
I was never taking more than I needed
Always standing at the end of the line
Waiting for my turn to succeed it
But it's hard to keep playing the part
When there's nothing left at all
Hey man, the story's getting old
Big lies, they always have been told
But right now you face another man
I keep on running in circles
In a crazy human race that never ends
I was never taking more than I needed
Always standing at the end of the line
Waiting for my turn to succeed it
But it's hard to keep playing the part
When there's nothing left at all
The lyrics to Gotthard's song "Nothing Left At All" comment on the repetitive and shallow nature of society, where individuals are trapped in a cycle of endless consumption and material gain, with little regard for the consequences of their actions. The lyrics open with an acknowledgement that the world is full of lies and that the singer is tired of the same old story. The chorus emphasizes the never-ending and unfulfilling cycle of seeking more and more, and how it leads to a lack of purpose and value in life.
The second verse specifically targets the rich, who are accused of stealing from the poor, and suggests that our constant dissatisfaction prevents us from recognizing what is really important. The overall tone of the song is one of frustration and disillusionment, recognizing that the system we have created perpetuates greed and leaves us feeling empty.
Overall, the song is a criticism of our cultural values and highlights the need for individuals to break free from the cycle of consumption and discover something more meaningful.
