Innocent
Gran Noir Lyrics

Longin' for that coolin' breeze
Feelin' paralyzed, everything's unkind
Never been here before
Feelin' rather strange
Twilight be my friend
Fear of insignificance
'Cause I'm so different
And I'm so innocent
I'm incomparable
I'm just like you
I am a decent human being
Went down to the shore, lookin' for relief
The water's way to warm
Like one don't belong here
'Cause you're so different
You're so innocent
You're incomparable
You are just like me
You're a decent human being
Don't wanna cross the line
Just wanna leave
So just leave it all behind (behind)
'Cause I can't stand the heat
(Just crossed the line)
Longin' for a breeze
(Just crossed the line)
Feeling paralyzed
(Just crossed the line)
And everything's unkind
(Just crossed the line)
A decent human being
A decent human being
The lyrics of Gran Noir's song Innocent express the feeling of discomfort and displacement that come from being different and realizing that one doesn't belong. The first stanza speaks of the physical discomfort caused by heat and the longing for relief, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the emotional distress of feeling out of place. The second stanza further explores this idea of being in an unfamiliar territory and feeling strange and insignificant.
The chorus brings some relief to this distress by stating that despite being different, the singer is just like everyone else, a decent human being. This can be seen as a note of self-affirmation and a call for empathy from others. The bridge of the song then goes back to the image of the shore, where the warmth of the water highlights the sense of not fitting in.
