Lights
Grasscut Lyrics

Illuminate thinking
Blue farament
Blue tron, They've gone to plead me
Your time is spent

The lights, the lights, the lights, that light,
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light

Now suits the silver key down
Into the lake
Now leaves the silent lead down
Its burning weight

Falling like an arrow charge sent out of lights

(×3)
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light,
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light

The lights, the lights, the lights, that light
The lights, the lights, the lights, that light

Overall Meaning

The Grasscut song "Lights" opens with the cryptic lyric "illuminate thinking." This prepares listeners for the abstract imagery that follows. The next line mentions a "blue farament," which is an archaic term for "sky." This not only creates a surreal atmosphere but also indicates that the song is taking place outside, under the vast expanse of the sky. The following line, "blue tron, they've gone to plead me," is more difficult to decipher. "Tron" could be a reference to the 1982 sci-fi film, which dealt with virtual reality and computer hacking. This raises the possibility that the song is commenting on society's over-reliance on technology. The phrase "they've gone to plead me" is also ambiguous. It could be interpreted as meaning that someone is trying to convince the singer to do something, or perhaps that the singer is being summoned to a higher power.

The rest of the song is comprised of a repeated chorus ("The lights, the lights, the lights, that light") and two verses. The second verse is just as mysterious as the first, with its references to a "silver key" and a "silent lead." These could be metaphors for something, but it's not clear what. The final line, "falling like an arrow charge sent out of lights," is vividly descriptive but open to interpretation.

Overall, "Lights" is a song that invites the listener to create their own meaning. Its references to light and technology suggest a commentary on modern society, but it's up to the individual to decide what that commentary is. The dreamlike quality of the lyrics adds to the feeling of ambiguity, making the song a uniquely introspective experience.
