Just for Tonight
Great White Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another lonely night
On the road to nowhere
I see you in the light
You just standing there

And when you sell your soul
I'll be coming around
I have my eyes on you, girl
So don't you shoot me down

I can see the fire burn in your eyes
We both know it's too late to turn back time

Will you love me, honey, when I'm gone
Will you miss, baby, right or wrong
And lay down just for tonight

The danger is so sweet
Stolen from your lips
And now I crave the touch
Of your fingertips

I can see the fire dance in your eyes
Let's go down in flames till the sunrise

Will you love me, honey, when I'm gone
Will you miss, baby, right or wrong
And lay down just for tonight

Will you love me, honey, when I'm gone
Will you miss, baby, right or wrong
And lay down just for tonight
Oh, just for tonight

Will you love me, honey, when I'm gone
Will you miss, baby, right or wrong
And lay down just for tonight

Will you love me, honey, right or wrong
Will you take it, honey, all night long
So lay down just for tonight

Will you love me?
Will you take me?
Lay down just for the night
Ah, just for tonight
Oh, just for tonight
So lay down just for tonight
Oh, just for tonight

Oh, just for tonight
Come on, honey, take it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Great White's "Just for Tonight" describe a dramatic scene of passion and danger between two people. The singer is on "the road to nowhere," feeling lonely and aimless, when he sees the object of his desire "in the light." Despite her having "sold her soul," he is consistently drawn to her, saying that he has his "eyes on [her]." He seems to revel in the danger of their attraction, comparing it to a sweet stolen taste from her lips that he craves more of. Together, they burn with a fire that they both know is too late to turn back from.

The chorus of the song poses a series of questions to the woman: "Will you love me, honey, when I'm gone/Will you miss, baby, right or wrong/And lay down just for tonight." The singer seems acutely aware that their relationship is fleeting and perhaps ultimately doomed. He wants to know if the woman will remember him when he's gone and if she'll make time just for one more night together. By the end of the song, he's pleading with her to "take it" and "lay down just for tonight."

Overall, "Just for Tonight" is a song of intense desire and longing. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of two people caught up in the heat of the moment, with the looming knowledge that it won't last forever.
