Greenslade and Reeves had been original members of Colosseum. Lawson was previously a member of Samurai and McCulloch was briefly a member of King Crimson, playing drums on that band's third album, Lizard (1970). Dave Clempson (ex Humble Pie and Colosseum) guests on Greenslade's third album, playing guitar on two tracks. Reeves left around that time and was replaced on the US tour and subsequent 4th album, Time and Tide, by Martin Briley who also contributed on guitar.
Greenslade announced their disbandment in 1976. However, in 2000, Dave Greenslade and Tony Reeves teamed up with drummer John Trotter and vocalist/keyboardist John Young and recorded a new Greenslade studio album: Large Afternoon. A tour soon followed and this was recorded and subsequently released in 2002, Greenslade 2001 - Live: The Full Edition.
There were rumours in late 2007 of Dave Greenslade and Tony Reeves collaborating on a new album, though as of 2011, nothing has been released.

In and out of the rainbow
Feel the colours colliding
They have covered everything
Rainbow
(Red, green, yellow, blue, indigo, orange, violet, rainbow)
In and out of the rainbow
We discovered everything
Rainbow
Red autumn leaves are beginning to glide to the ground
Like our affair they are fading the curtain is down
Once they were green like my envy, they've turned to a yellow my cowardice blue now I reminisce
I saw a rainbow through tears though there wasn't a sun
(Red, green, yellow, blue, indigo, orange, violet, rainbow)
In and out of the rainbow, what's the use of pretending
I have just imagined you
Rainbow
The lyrics to Greenslade's song "Rainbow" revolve around the theme of love and the feelings associated with it. The song starts off with mentioning the colours of the rainbow and how they are colliding, indicating the intense emotions associated with love. The singer then talks about discovering everything through the rainbow, possibly referring to discovering the beauty of life through love. The chorus repeats the colours of the rainbow and mentions finding a person who was hiding, possibly indicating the discovery of love after searching for it.
The second verse continues with the colors metaphor, comparing the falling autumn leaves to the fading of a relationship. The colors of the leaves, from green to yellow to blue, represent the progression of emotions - envy to cowardice to sadness. The singer reminisces about a time when they saw a rainbow through tears, indicating a hopeful moment amidst sadness. The final line of the chorus emphasizes the futility of pretending to imagine someone, possibly indicating a longing for a real connection.
