Originally from Easton, Pennsylvania, he started his career as a shredder on Mike Varney's Shrapnel label in the 1980s, and became one of the founding fathers of the shred trend alongside players such as Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen, Tony MacAlpine, and Vinnie Moore, among others.
However, Howe soon developed a more distinctive style that was more rooted in jazz fusion than the neoclassical leanings of his contemporaries. His style borrows heavily from the jazz sensibilities of Allan Holdsworth, but also mixes in a bluesy, groove-laden vibe and frequent use of unusual time signatures.
Apart from his solo career, Howe has established himself as a highly sought after session musician, being hired by mainstream acts such as Michael Jackson, Enrique Iglesias, *NSYNC, and Justin Timberlake to perform with them on tour.
Howe currently lives in Southern California.

Can't people just make versions of the song without it being negatively compared ?
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa IT'S NOT LIKE THE ORIGINAL!!
well yeah why should it be ?
If it was a carbon copy of the original what's the point?
I like artists interpretations , it's like going to ice cream store and choosing a different flavor.

Greg's and Steve Morse's solos are out of this world! So much technical feeling and emotion!

Greg's chops show examples of a far superior guitarist at work here. What he does with this song to me as a guitarist is simply amazing. Greg Howe is one of the finest players you will ever hear.

Man, even Alex Liefson has to be saying to himself, "Damn, that's pretty fucken good !!! I have been playing guitar for 40 years, and I have never heard anyone like Greg Howe. I think the reason he covered this was just to see how far he could take it. Simply Amazing !!!
Calvin Evans
No one does it as well as the originator Alex Lifeson.

This is the sound of someone who plays 8+ hours a day, every day. For years. Never fails to blow me away.
John Lee
For those of you who've correctly identified that Greg Howe and Alex Lifeson are two different musicians, I congratulate you! :-D

I don't compare Greg and Alex Lifeson's solos in this song, I just take them for what they are, both are great solos. Lifeson doesn't play like this and Greg doesn't play like him. There would be no point in any case trying to copy Alex Lifeson.

Awesome interpretation. Should have a billion views ! :P

I have a lot of respect for Howe. I think he's an amazing player. But this definitely isn't as good as the Rush version. I was very impressed up to the solo part. There is no doubt that it was absolutely insane, but it had nowhere near the feeling that Alex Lifeson's solo had.
