requiem translates to "grant them eternal rest." This hymn is a prayer to Jesus to have mercy and forgive the sins of the world. The repeated prayer for mercy -- "pie Jesu" -- is a request that Christ have mercy on the souls of the departed. The second part of the song shifts to a plea for Christ's forgiveness ("Agnus Dei") and ends with the same request for eternal rest. The hymn is often performed at funerals or during mourning as a way to offer hope and comfort.
The melody for Pie Jesu is attributed to French composer Gabriel FaurĂ©, who included it as part of his Requiem in D minor. FaurĂ©'s Requiem was first performed in November 1888 and originally had five movements, but he later added the Pie Jesu as a sixth movement in 1893. FaurĂ©âs Pie Jesu became so popular that it was frequently performed outside of the larger work and led to his creation of an orchestral version in 1900.

I certainly am. I remember it well when it was first released. It's an absolutely exquisite performance and setting of this sacred text. It still brings tears to my eyes. I also remember first hearing it to the soundtrack from where the images of this video come: a film called Hope & Glory.
