Brave New World
Greta Van Fleet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As to the drifters of the high rift plains
They can see the ashes, and the acid rain
It turns to dust before their very eyes
And it chokes to death within the smog it lies

Take one look at your skies
And in the darkness realize
Kill fear, the power of lies
For we will not be hypnotized

Turn back the clock within your glass of sand
To a time of love within this blackened land
A silent child climbs a mound of char
Where he plants a seed that grows beyond the stars

Take one look at your skies
And in the darkness realize
Kill fear, the power of lies
For we will not be hypnotized

Take one look at your skies
And in the darkness realize
Kill fear, the power of lies
For we will not be hypnotized

Oh no no no
Oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Greta Van Fleet's "Brave New World" call attention to the destructive consequences of human actions on the environment. The drifters of the high rift plains represent a group of people who witness the destruction of their surroundings as everything turns to ashes and the acid rain falls from the sky. The song is a call for action to humanity to realize the gravity of what they have done and make significant changes to protect the planet. The lyrics urge us to break free from the chains of fear and the power of lies that have led us down this path of destruction, and to join in a collective effort to push back against those who have mesmerized us with their dubious motives.

The lyrics reveal that redemption is still possible, but we must turn back the clock of our time to find answers. The reference to the "glass of sand" may signify that time is running out, but we can go back to a time when love reigned supreme, and humans lived in harmony with nature. The idea of a "silent child" planting a seed that grows beyond the stars is a powerful image of hope, signifying that change is always within our grasp, no matter how impossible it may seem.

I’m 64 years old, and I love this band. It’s awesome to hear young musicians who are making music on their own terms. It was tempting but unfair of the public to initially label them as Zeppelin imitators. I’m elated that this new album further proves their abilities as players and songwriters. They’re not a flash-in-the-pan. After many years of crappy mainstream music, we have a great band whose music we can look forward to hearing. Thanks to these young artists for the music!!!

I totally disagree with you. You know, this song really is a great composition work and autoral. But listen to the other songs of this album and this is what this band is: generic Zeppelin imitators. I Like Greta, but this guys should improve and get mature if they want to loss this stigma

@ortegaalex13

@@rafaelverli5003 what other zeppelin imitator bands have gotten as far as Greta van fleet...... led zeppelin had inspiration from other bands maybe people even thought they copied....they're a good band and haven't copied anything of zeppelins ...voices sound similar yeah but who cares. They're good, theyre gettin somewhere, because they do have their own creativity along with some inspiration that's a give in and all artists have inspiration.
