On Ellen, Greyson revealed he had received piano lessons for the past 3 years, but had not undergone any formal vocal training. He cited Lady Gaga as his primary inspiration, stating, "I love how she's so different, and she takes her individuality and she takes her amazing talent that she has and she makes just great songs that are catchy and make you want to dance."
Greyson was on the show on May 26, 2010 again. He performed his own song "Broken Hearts". He got 10,000 dollar from the producers of the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Also Ellen told that Greyson is the first artist on her brand new label called eleveneleven and that they will make a record together.
As of 2014, Greyson is currently in the process of writing and recording his sophomore studio album.
On March 15, 2019 Chance released his sophomore album "portraits". He, himself, calls it his debut album because he had complete creative control on this album and he feels like it's what reflects him now, as an artist.

Hands
Greyson Chance Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
You can tell me what you want
I'm up the stairs in the dark
And I leave the door unlocked
Mm, you think it's head or heels
But if you're not breaking bones
Then what's the point of chasin' pavements
This ain't no high school love
Why don't you tell me what you want?
I wonder if you'll ever understand
What it's like to be loved by these hands
I wonder if you'll ever let me know
What it's like to be warm in the cold
Take a chance on the holy grail
Make me wonder if you'd ever waste it
I wonder if you'll ever understand
What it's like to be loved by these hands
This ain't no water in a drought
Why don't you drink me up and over?
Cut off the thorns of your stems
We can sweat in the Oklahoma summer
Mm, you think it's head or heels
But if you're not breaking bones
Then what's the point of chasin' pavements?
I wonder if you'll ever understand (oh)
What it's like to be loved by these hands (by these hands, by these hands)
I wonder if you'll ever let me know (oh)
What it's like to be warm in the cold (warm in the cold)
Take a chance on the holy grail
Make me wonder if you'd ever waste it (oh)
I wonder if you'll ever understand
What it's like to be loved by these hands
These hands, these hands
This ain't no high school love
You can tell me what you want
Turn off the telly in the room
I'll keep my focus on you
To change your point of view
I wonder if you'll ever understand
What it's like to be loved by a man
I wonder if you'll ever let me know (oh)
What it's like to be warm in the cold (warm in the cold)
Take a chance on the holy grail
Make me wonder if you'd ever waste it (oh)
I wonder if you'll ever understand
What it's like to be loved by these hands
These hands, these hands
Greyson Chance's song "Hands" delves into the complexities of love and relationships beyond the superficiality often associated with high school love. The lyrics convey a sense of maturity and depth in the connection between the singer and the subject of the song. The opening lines challenge the idea of traditional high school love, emphasizing the need for honesty and communication in a relationship. By mentioning being "up the stairs in the dark" and leaving the door unlocked, there is a sense of vulnerability and openness, suggesting a willingness to let someone in fully.
The chorus addresses the theme of chasing after something only to end up back where you started, questioning the purpose of such pursuits. The repeated question of "What it's like to be loved by these hands" signifies a desire for the subject to truly understand and appreciate the depth of the singer's love and affection. The mention of chasing pavements adds a layer of introspection, suggesting a contemplation of one's own actions and intentions in relationships.
The second verse delves deeper into the longing for understanding and connection, painting a picture of warmth in the midst of coldness. The imagery of sweating in the Oklahoma summer and cutting off thorns from stems conveys a sense of overcoming obstacles and barriers to reach a deeper level of intimacy. It highlights the idea of taking a chance on something precious, like the holy grail, and questioning whether it would be valued or wasted.
The final verse brings a sense of resolution, emphasizing the importance of focusing on each other and changing perspectives to truly understand and appreciate one another. The longing to be loved by a man and the repeated motif of warmth in the cold suggest a yearning for emotional connection and intimacy. The chorus repeats the theme of understanding and being loved by these hands, reinforcing the idea of genuine and deep affection that goes beyond surface level. Overall, the song "Hands" by Greyson Chance explores the complexities of relationships, love, and the longing for genuine connection and understanding.
