She's been worthy of innumerable recognitions, awards and special mentions from the critics. Guadalupe Pineda has proved through 30 years of career that quality and purity of music are not opposed to the popular approval.
Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico Guadalupe moved to Mexico City where she got her roots since early age. After studying Sociology at the faculty of Politic Sciences (UNAM), started a career as singer in samll forums and coffee shops.
Not too many people knows that before starting to sing, Guadalupe had experience at different jobs as a real estate seller, apprentice to a mechanic and as a guitar teacher. Her first opportunity came in 1974 singing Latin America and Jewish folkloric songs. In that period she formed 2 groups: "La Propuesta" and "Sanampay", with this second one she recorded 3 discs and showcased herself for first time in the United States.
In 1980 recorded an album with Carlos Diaz "Caito" and in 1981 she formally started a solo artist career.
She took her voice to many civic squares, correctional buildings, mental health institutions, reformatories, offices and parks until in 1984, after 10 years of hard work, she recorded the track "Yolanda", also know as "Te Amo" (duet with Pablo Milanes), which conquered the hearts of all Mexico. Just in our country, the sales of the album reached million and a half copies.
Now-a-days, Guadalupe Pineda has a discography of 22 albums, with at least the latest 4 produced by herself as an independent artist. She has received Gold and Platinum certifications with some of her albums due to high sales, including a Double Platinum certification for her album "Arias de Opera" (2004).
Her voice has transcended Mexican frontiers, she has been included in national and foreign movies and also has been part of important collections such as "Buddha-bar" of France, or the "Monte Carlo" Italian collection, that have been edited and released all over the world.
Her albums have been released in countries as far as Japan and she has performed on stage around the world (United States, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Central and South America). Her most recent shows took place at Paris in 2005, and at the historic Argentinian opera house, "Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires" in November of 2006.
There have been also shows at some of the more important and recognized forums in Mexico, like "El Palacio de Bellas Artes", "Sala Nezahualcoyotl", "Teatro de la Ciudad de Mexico" (which was restored in 1985), "El Teatro Degollado", "El Teatro Juarez", and forums of the "Cervantino" festival, as well in the most representative and famous civic square of the country, the "Zocalo de la Ciudad de Mexico". All these places have been witness to the art of Guadalupe and the great love from her public.
el breve espacio

Sus olores llenan ya mi soledad,
En la cama su silueta
Se dibuja cual promesa
De llenar el breve espacio
En que no está...
Todavía yo no sé si volverá,
Nadie sabe, al día siguiente, lo que hará.
No confiesa ni una pena,
No me pide nada a cambio
De lo que dá.
Suele ser violenta y tierna,
No habla de uniones eternas,
Mas se entrega cual si hubiera
Sólo un día para amar.
No comparte una reunión,
Mas le gusta la canción
Que comprometa su pensar.
Todavía no pregunté ¿te quedarás?.
Temo mucho a la respuesta de un jamás.
La prefiero compartida
Antes que vaciar mi vida,
No es perfecta
Mas se acerca a lo que yo
Simplemente soñé...
The lyrics to Guadalupe Pineda's song El Breve Espacio are about the lingering feelings of a past love. The song starts off with the singer describing how the remnants of the love affair still permeate their solitude. Even in the empty space where their loved one is absent, the memories and remnants of them still remain. The singer is unsure if their love will return, leaving them to ponder over the unpredictability of life. Despite the uncertainty, the promise of their lover's silhouette still lingers in their mind, slowly filling the space where they are not.
Furthermore, the singer portrays their lover as a complex character who defies their expectations. She is both violent and tender, with no interest in a long-term commitment. However, in the moment, she gives herself completely to the singer, as if there were only one day to love. She refuses to conform to the singer's traditional expectations of a relationship, but still values songs that make her think. The singer's uncertainty about whether their lover will return is deepened by their fear of the possibility of being rejected, leading them to prefer a shared experience with their lover rather than an empty life without them.

Todavía quedan restos de humedad,
There are still remnants of moisture,
Sus olores llenan ya mi soledad,
Its odors fill my solitude already,
En la cama su silueta
In bed, her silhouette
Se dibuja cual promesa
Draws itself like a promise
De llenar el breve espacio
To fill the brief space
En que no está...
Where she is not...
Todavía yo no sé si volverá,
I still don't know if she'll come back,
Nadie sabe, al día siguiente, lo que hará.
No one knows what she will do the next day.
Rompe todos mis esquemas,
She breaks all my schemes,
No confiesa ni una pena,
She doesn't confide a single sorrow,
No me pide nada a cambio
She doesn't ask me for anything in return
De lo que dá.
For what she gives.
Suele ser violenta y tierna,
She's usually violent and tender,
No habla de uniones eternas,
She doesn't talk about eternal unions,
Mas se entrega cual si hubiera
But she gives herself as if there were only
Sólo un día para amar.
One day to love.
No comparte una reunión,
She doesn't attend gatherings,
Mas le gusta la canción
But she likes the song
Que comprometa su pensar.
That engages her thinking.
Todavía no pregunté ¿te quedarás?.
I still haven't asked 'will you stay?'
Temo mucho a la respuesta de un jamás.
I'm very afraid of the answer being 'never.'
La prefiero compartida
I prefer sharing her
Antes que vaciar mi vida,
Rather than emptying my life,
No es perfecta
She's not perfect
Mas se acerca a lo que yo
But she comes close to what I
Simplemente soñé...
Simply dreamed...
