Superhuman
GusGus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's me
It's not hate
It's love for you
Sleep now, love
Sleep now
There will always be failure
How glad I am to be superhuman
Leave now, love
Leave now
You will recover from that
It's not hate
It's love for you
How glad I am to be superhuman
The lyrics of GusGus's Superhuman have a deep and multi-faceted meaning. The words "it's not you, it's me" are often associated with personal relationships and breakups, indicating a realization that the fault lies within oneself rather than the other person. However, in this context, it could also refer to a person's inner struggles and demons. The following lines "It's not hate, it's love for you" imply that the emotional turmoil faced by the singer is not directed towards anyone else but themselves. This could be reference to self-hatred and difficulty in accepting oneself.
The lines "Sleep now, love, there will always be failure" suggest that the singer encourages themselves to rest and recharge, even after experiencing setbacks or failures. This could indicate a reminder to oneself that failures are inevitable, but it is important to take care of oneself and get back up. The gratitude expressed in the line "How glad I am to be superhuman" could indicate that the singer chooses to see themselves as a strong and powerful entity that can overcome any hardship.
The final lines "Leave now, love, you will recover from that/It's not hate, it's love for you" could suggest a message of hope, encouraging the singer to move on from past hardships and acknowledging the love one has for themselves.
