A self-titled debut album appeared on their Kjól & Anderson imprint in conjunction with the screening of "Pleasure" and immediately caused a buzz on the scene in their native land. Eventually its euphoric grooves and sensual beats reached the demanding ears of UK's 4AD Records, which signed the band in 1996. After the release of their 4AD debut and second album Polydistortion, the collective started touring relentlessly to a wide acclaim that has been enforced to this day.
They released their eighth album, Arabian Horse, in 2011.
Gus Gus has had a varied lineup, including:

Several lineup changes have occurred, and their current incarnation consists of three members (President Bongo, Daniel Agust and Biggi Veira). After their third album, This Is Normal, the filmmaking arm of Gus Gus (Kjartansson and Árni Þorgeirsson) split off to form the production company Celebrator, now known as Arni & Kinski, which has produced award-winning advertisements and videos.[citation needed] A few former members such as Hafdís Huld, Blake, and Daníel Ágúst have gone solo, most notably though Emilíana Torrini, who provided a song for the soundtrack to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
Gus Gus's music is eclectic, and although primarily classified with techno, trip-hop and house music, they have experimented with numerous other styles. They have also remixed several famous artists, including Björk, Depeche Mode, Moloko, and Sigur Rós. Added to this they released the song Desire with Ian Brown in January 2004.

Superhuman
Gus Gus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's me
It's not hate
It's love for you
Sleep now, love
Sleep now
There will always be failure
How glad I am to be superhuman
Leave now, love
Leave now
You will recover from that
It's not hate
It's love for you
How glad I am to be superhuman
The lyrics to Gus Gus's song Superhuman speak to the complex emotional dynamics of a relationship. The singer acknowledges that there is a problem in the relationship and moves to clarify that it is not the other person's fault ("It's not you / It's me"). They follow this up by saying that the problems they have are not rooted in hatred but rather in deep feelings of love for the other person ("It's not hate / It's love for you").
While the first half of the song deals with the challenges that the relationship faces, the second half is more focused on encouraging the listener to find peace and strength within themselves. The lines "Sleep now, love / Sleep now / There will always be failure" bottle up the hope that the problems of the world and the relationship can be slept off. The lyric "How glad I am to be superhuman" follows a sense of relief and triumph, as if the singer has found the power and the perspective to overcome the challenges of the relationship.
Overall, the lyrics of Superhuman deal with common relationship issues – the difficulties of expressing difficult emotions, the need for patience and self-acceptance, and the desire to embody superhuman strength in the face of adversity. It presents a message of hope and renewal that can be meaningful for many individuals struggling to navigate relational challenges.
