Yeah, I keep try and try my best but I kn ow that I can′t replace ya
They say I'm wastin' my time, yeah, and I can′t change it
But I, I′m gonna try and try, don't care if they think I′m crazy
(Pre-)
I'm only human
I′m only human
()
Is it madness to run for the fire even though you′ll be burned so bad?
It hurts like a drug, drug, and you just can't give it up
They say it's madness, but I call it love, yeah, I call it love
(2)
I shut my eyes so tight, but still I can see ya
So many voices inside my head, but only yours is familiar
And I say yo name over and over and over like the record′s broken
Hopin′ one day you'll catch my words and feel happy I′ve spoken
(Pre-)
I'm only human
I′m only human
()
Is it madness to give all you've got even though you get nothing back?
Is it madness to run for the fire even though you′ll be burned so bad?
It hurts like a drug, drug, and you just can't give it up
They say it's madness, but I call it love, yeah, I call it love
(Bridge)
I call it love
I call it love

Is it madness to give all you′ve got even though you get nothing back?
Is it madness to run for the fire even though you′ll be burned so bad?
It hurts like a drug, drug, and you just can't give it up
They say it′s madness, but I call it love, yeah, I call it love
In "Madness" by Guy Sebastian, the lyrics convey a sense of longing and determination in love, even when faced with obstacles and doubts from others. The song explores the idea of whether it is considered madness to give everything in a relationship, even if there is no reciprocation.
The opening lines express the dilemma of not wanting to settle for anything less than an amazing love, acknowledging that it is impossible to replace someone who has had such a profound impact. Despite being told that pursuing this love is a waste of time, the singer declares their commitment to try and defy others' opinions, even if they are perceived as crazy.
The chorus asks the question of whether it is considered madness to give everything in love without expecting anything in return. It questions whether it is madness to willingly embrace the pain and heartache that comes with loving someone deeply, despite the knowledge that it may not be reciprocated. The reference to it hurting like a drug portrays the addictive and consuming nature of this love.
The following verses highlight the singer's inability to forget their love interest. They mention seeing their presence everywhere and hearing their voice in their head, emphasizing the intense longing and attachment. The repetition of the name symbolizes a desperate plea for the person to hear the depth of their emotions, hoping that it will make them happy.
Throughout the song, the singer acknowledges their humanity and the vulnerability that comes with being human. They are aware of the risks involved in fully committing to this love, but they refer to it as calling it love rather than madness, suggesting that their feelings are strong enough to defy societal expectations or judgments.
In the bridge, the repetition of "I call it love" solidifies the singer's belief in their own definition of love, despite others perceiving it as madness. It reinforces the idea that their commitment and willingness to go through hardship is a testament to the strength and depth of their emotions.
Overall, "Madness" explores the complex emotions and conflicts that arise when deeply in love. It questions societal norms and perceptions, and the lyrics convey a sense of determination to pursue love even in the face of adversity.
