Mars
H.A.L Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of H.A.L's song "Mars" convey a deep sense of struggle and resilience in the face of adversity. The singer describes feeling adrift, with no sense of direction or control, as if sailing a ship without a rudder. The vastness of the ocean overwhelms them, and they fear getting lost within it. Despite dreaming of setting sail and embarking on a journey, they never anticipated finding themselves floating in the open sea, dealing with the challenges it presents.

As the journey progresses, the lyrics paint a picture of frustration and exhaustion. The singer feels like they are making little to no progress, facing obstacles such as fatigue and the looming threat of shipwreck. Despite their initial romanticized vision of sailing the seas, they now find themselves grappling with the harsh realities of unfavorable conditions and the dangers that come with navigating treacherous waters.

The mention of the blinding sun and the struggle to move forward can be interpreted as a metaphor for facing obstacles that impede personal growth or progress. The singer admits to feeling adrift, at the mercy of external forces like the alluring call of the sirens that tempt them to abandon their course. However, they show a strong determination not to give up, expressing a firm resolve to persevere, even if it means facing the unknown with unwavering courage.

Towards the end of the song, there is a shift in perspective as the singer reflects on finding solace and companionship in the stars. The mention of a special guiding star, the polar star, symbolizes hope and guidance in times of darkness and uncertainty. Despite not knowing if they will ever reach their intended destination, the singer embraces the present moment with gratitude and contentment, finding peace in the journey itself. Ultimately, the lyrics convey a message of resilience, perseverance, and finding joy in the midst of adversity while navigating through life's unpredictable seas.

This theory works especially well considering that one of the Gorosei looks especially younger than his peers, he might be the “replacement”.

If this is true then it also means that the Gorosei won’t all be depicted as villainous and instead are more grey, as i doubt Shanks’s father would be an extremely evil character.
