Their aesthetic clashed drastically with the rock revival scene that was growing popular in Australia, and their early shows harbored mixed reviews. The trio followed its love of Krautrock to Berlin, Germany, and recorded an EP. Titled "Nostalgia", the disc was self-released in a limited run of 500 in 2005.
Two years later, U.K. label Fire Records (Spacemen 3, Jackie-O-Motherfucker) gave the album a proper release, and soon after the trio started recording its first full-length, "Marry Me Tonight", with former Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S. Howard. Long withheld due to a legal dispute, "Marry Me Tonight" finally saw a release in 2009 on seminal avant-rock label Blast First Petite (Pan Sonic, Suicide).
Live, HTRK have supported Alan Vega, Lydia Lunch, and The Locust, The Horrors and toured Europe with Liars, Shellac and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Give It Up
HTRK Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This way, when you talk
You talk more than your mouthful
Hey boys, give it up
This way, when you talk
You talk more than your mouthful
This way, cause
You're talking more than your mouthful
This time,
I'm gonna love you much better
I'm gonna love you much better
I'm gonna love you much better
I'm gonna love you much better
I'm gonna love you much better
You're driving me off the highway
You're driving me off the highway
You're driving me off the highway
You knock my precious metal sideways
On my drive to perfection
This time,
I'm gonna love you much better
I'm gonna love you much better
The lyrics to HTRK's song "Give It Up" are a call to others to relinquish their power and release their inhibitions. The repetition of "Hey boys, give it up" encourages the listener to let go of their controlling tendencies and allow themselves to be vulnerable with others. "This way, when you talk, you talk more than your mouthful" further emphasizes the idea of being open and honest with communication. By surrendering control and allowing for genuine dialogue, the singer suggests a more fulfilling relational experience.
The repeated phrase "This time, I'm gonna love you much better" seems to signify a change in the nature of the relationship. The previous experiences of the singer have led them to a place where they are ready to embrace a different approach. The lines "You're driving me off the highway" and "You knock my precious metal sideways on my drive to perfection" suggest that the previous struggle was a result of trying to maintain perfection and control within the relationship. By deciding to "love much better," the singer is letting go of this need for control and embracing a more open, honest and accepting approach to the relationship.
