Out of the black
Breaking free of the wasteland
Out of the mud
Crawling up through the quicksand
Leaving the dark, coming into the light
Don't lay me down, save your last rites
'Cause I'm still standing above ground
Back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me
Back from the other side
Up from the dirt I rise
Save your prayers, don't bless my bones
Erase my name from my headstone
Back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me down
On the edge of the world getting lost in oblivion
To the devils who tried to keep me living like a prisoner
Couldn't chain me down, couldn't cage me in
So keep your savior, give me back my sins
'Cause I'm still standing on the ground
Back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me
Back from the other side
Up from the dirt I rise
Save your prayers, don't bless my bones
Erase my name from my headstone
Back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me down
Down
Back from the dead alive
Back from the other side
I'm back
I'm back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me
Back from the other side
Up from the dirt I rise
Save your prayers, don't bless my bones
Erase my name from my headstone
Back from the dead alive
Hell couldn't hold me down
Hell couldn't hold me down
Hell couldn't hold me down
The lyrics of Halestorm’s “Back from the Dead” are a declaration of resilience, strength, and perseverance. The song is about rising above darkness and adversity, about leaving behind the chains that have kept you captive and coming back even stronger. Lzzy Hale, the lead vocalist of the band, sings of being back from the dead, coming out of the black, breaking free of the wasteland, and crawling up through the quicksand.
The verse “Save your prayers, don't bless my bones, erase my name from my headstone” is a statement about not being constrained by the past or the future, but living in the present. It’s a declaration of freedom, of not being held back by the baggage of past mistakes, and moving forward with the strength and courage to face whatever comes your way. The lyrics also refer to the devil as the captive keeper, which is a metaphor for the demons that we battle within ourselves, the fears, the doubts, and the insecurities that keep us from moving forward.
In summary, “Back from the Dead” emphasizes on breaking free from the chains that life sometimes puts us in, the importance of living in the present and embracing change and growth, and the power and freedom that come from perseverance.

As someone who died (2018) & fought a condition considered insurvivable, I just wanted to take a moment & say:
🤟FUCK YEAH!!!!!🤟
Recently, I got an awful but unsurprising diagnosis per that history. It generally kills within 6 months. 💔
This song first came on when I was feeling hopeless. I need to come back from an ongoing, complex, downward medical spiral. Music therapy helped me survive last time I was sick & this is added to my Fight to Live list now. 🖤🖤🖤

@GhostDriftS9 What's good depends how you measure it.
Best vocals? Best drumming? Best guitar playing? Best studio production? Best stage presence? Best lyrics? Best visuals?
Nobody tops the lot so it depends what you're measuring.
I'd argue that Halestorm has always been a live rock show first and foremost and that's their strongest point.
Versus various other bands that have other strengths be it complex guitar playing, elaborate studio production or whatever.
All depends on what you're measuring.
