The otherworldly take on pop, jazz and art rock has given Hukkelberg two nominations for the Norwegian Grammy, mulitple tours and a wide audience internationally and a tour with Wilco in 2010. This was also the year she travelled to New York to write new material.
The result is Featherbrain – Hukkelberg’s fourth album – the last part of the circle, to be released world wide February 2012.
Combining the noisy guitars and heavy rhythms of Blood From A Stone, the stripped-down, lyrical lightness from Rykestrasse 68, and the weired and quirky sound picture from Little Things, Featherbrain creates a kind of antique pop music, at the same time brittle and soft, powerful and fragile. Hukkelberg explains:”This album feels like the missing link. Now these four album are one”.
Featherbrain is a risky album. Both dissonant and lyrical, it is music for headphones and notebooks. Its intimate, eccentric sounds demand your intimacy and your eccentricity, but the effort is rewarded: a personal and honest sonic world opens up, in fact, so sincere Hukkelberg had to toughen up to record it. Listen carefully!

Displaced
Hanne Hukkelberg Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But in pain 'cause this things
I'm with you but not in you
In the place I should be
As your heart I beat for you
But you won't beat with me
I'm ashamed of you
Oh, what a shame
As your heart I'm a prisoner
Trapped behind bars of your mind
I'm not guilty, so it's a pity
That you won't let me through
The lyrics of Hanne Hukkelberg's song Displaced describe a feeling of being present in someone's life but not being fully embraced or acknowledged by them. The song creates a metaphorical relationship between the singer and the listener, with the singer being referred to as "your heart." The phrase "I'm with you but not in you" embodies the feeling of being physically present but emotionally disconnected. The theme of shame emerges as the singer expresses disappointment in the listener for not allowing them access to their heart - the place where they feel they belong.
The second verse extends the metaphor, with the singer proclaiming to beat for the listener but expressing sadness that the listener won't beat with them. The phrase "I'm ashamed of you" signals the frustration that the singer feels, blaming the listener for placing them only in their mind and not their heart. The third verse reinforces the idea of being trapped and unable to break free, expressing a sense of powerlessness and frustration at being a prisoner behind bars of the listener's mind. The final lines express sadness that the listener won't allow the singer to pass through and connect on a deeper level.
Overall, the lyrics of Displaced describe a feeling of being displaced and disconnected from someone, despite being in close proximity. The use of the metaphor of "your heart" is a powerful way of expressing emotional depth and vulnerability.

As your heart I'll be with you
I will stand next to you, in all my essence
But in pain 'cause this things
Although it pains me to witness your deeds
I'm with you but not in you
My presence is companionship, but not connection
In the place I should be
The role I ought to occupy in your life
As your heart I beat for you
My rhythm echoes yours in solidarity
But you won't beat with me
You refuse to match my cadence, and it aches
I'm ashamed of you
Your actions fill me with deep dishonor and disappointment
'Cause you've put me in your mind
Your perception of me is constructed out of falsehood
Oh, what a shame
Alas, what a regrettable state of affairs
As your heart I'm a prisoner
I am trapped, by virtue of my association with you
Trapped behind bars of your mind
You hold me captive within your own narrow-mindedness
I'm not guilty, so it's a pity
I have done you no wrong, therefore it is a shame
That you won't let me through
You refuse to grant me passage, and it is lamentable
