While not explicitly addressed to date, the name Helvete was adopted due to its meaning "hell" or "a place of suffering" in Norwegian, He is nicknamed Hank von Hell. Though a speculative conclusion, it should not be ignored that Helvete was also the name adopted by an Oslo music store, founded by the late Euronymous of ill-fated Norwegian band Mayhem. The store and its basement record label, acted as the de facto hub for Norway's black metal scene until just before Euronymous' murder in 1993, the same year that Husby joined Turbonegro.
Husby's band is most well known for their tongue-in-cheek humor dealing with homosexual aesthetics and punk rock antics, and the formation of a genre they label "death punk". The band formed in the late 1980s and put out a few records before disbanding in 1998 when Husby's heroin addiction made him unable to perform. After going through rehab, Turbonegro reunited in 2002, but Husby and the band "laid it on ice" in 2010. The main reason for this was his new lifestyle as a sober family man.
Husby went through detox while living at the Moskenes island in Lofoten, Norway. Here he worked at Norsk Fiskeværsmuseum in Å, as well as working as a presenter at Moskenesradioen, a local radio station.
One of Husby's favorite singers is David Bowie. He is a supporter of FC St. Pauli, a German football-club.
During the Norwegian TV show "Først og Sist" in 2005 Husby was asked this question from the TV host: "Do you like plants, Hank?". On this Hank replied "No, but I've been addicted to one".
Husby is married to model Gro Skaustein . The couple have a daughter together, who was born on December 21, 2008.
In 2009, he had a joint #1 hit alongside Maria Solheim in the Norwegian Singles Chart with "Rom for alle". The song stayed at #1 for 3 weeks including the Christmas chart for 2009.
He claims to have now dealt with his drug addiction problem thanks to the drug rehab Narconon. He played the title role in Cornelis, a Swedish film from 2010 about the singer-songwriter Cornelis Vreeswijk.
On 6 June 2011, Hank, alongside his new band Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult, released their first album I Declare: Treason.
Fall 2011 he was a judge in Norwegian Idol. His biography was released in Norway october 2012, written by famous writer and poet Havard Rem, where he speaks openly about his life so far.
He entered the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix stage in january 2013 in the second pre-selection show for Eurovision song contest 2013.

Och tvätta din trut dagen är slut
Festen är över fast alla festar
Talet har tystnat fast alla talar
Döden tar fatt dig i desssa salar
Aldrig mer antabus
The lyrics to Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby's song "Cool Water" delve into themes of reflection, mortality, and the need for self-control. The opening lines suggest a scene of a party or gathering coming to an end, with the singer encouraging someone to clean up their scattered belongings and leave. Despite the festive atmosphere, the song highlights a sense of emptiness and a hollowness in all the conversations and activities happening around. The lyrics evoke a sense of inevitability, with death lurking in the background. The singer urges the listener to take a moment to hold their breath and quietly exit.
The second verse continues with a somber tone, questioning the listener's comprehension of what is happening and their awareness of the true nature of things. It asserts that death is present in everything they perceive, regardless of their attempts to analyze or recall. The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness, emphasizing that no matter how much they ponder or investigate, that moment will eventually come again. The song then urges the listener to leave and refrain from drinking any more. It suggests that they should stand up, look around, and gently walk towards the open door that promises light and clarity, leaving behind their empty cup.
Overall, "Cool Water" is a contemplative song that touches on the transience of life, the emptiness of excess, and the need for self-control and clarity in one's actions. The lyrics invite the listener to reflect on their own mortality and consider the importance of living with intention and awareness.
