Greatest opening of any movie - an event in itself.

Atom Heart Mother

Agreed. Along with Richard Fleisher "Soylent Green" (1973), Arthur Penn "Bonnie & Clyde" (1967), Shane Meadows "This is England" (2006) and Sidney Lumet's "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975) are the best movie openings ever made in the whole cinema history (for me anyway)

Basin Bictory

I think this is one of the most brilliant opening sequences in all of film. The juxtaposition of a child sweetly singing a folk song while images of death and destruction play across the screen is classic Peckinpah.

the sweet folk song is about going to war. we had to sing it in kindergarten as well.^^

Kabuki Kommando [Fourth World]

This intro caught me off guard when I finally saw this movie in full on DVD not two days ago. I then watched it again immediately after with the commentary track on. A haunting opening that has left me chilled and moved forever from this moment forth. 👺✨🗡👺

This bit has left me with a strong desire to watch this film. The juxtaposition of children's voices (innocence) and disturbing imagery (guilt) has been used a lot from B horror movies to Punk Rock (The Clash's "Career Opportunities"). This film utilizes that old trope so masterfully that I have to think that there is something special here. Cheers.

Amazing the battles that were fought in the East during WWII. Too bad more films have not been made to portray this. I think many in the Western World would be amazed to know that 3/4 of the entire German Army was fighting the Russians when D-Day happened (which was good for the Allies). This is probably the best movie ever made to date on the war in the East from 41-45.

If you havent, check out "Come and See."

Yes the war in the east tied down 80% of German military resources when we in the west struggled to advance against 20% ? And yes if Henniken did big battles it would be Stalingrad or Kursk pal definitely.

@Im not Laura Kightlinger I know what film you mean, it's a Russian made movie with civilian massacred etc.
