The Garden
Happy Fits Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There is a house with a garden
Floral walls line the trees
Poke my head through a window
Air was fresh, all was green

When it was ripe, how it could flow far above you
Fill it with life, make it a home, how it could grow
So if I lay down and let the roots grow 'round
Would it make me whole again?
If barren wood could touch this ground, oh, flower it would

There is a house with a garden
Floral walls line the trees
In this house where I started
So much pain grew through me

When it was ripe, how it could flow far above you
Fill it with life, make it a home, how it could grow

So if I lay down and let the roots grow 'round

Would it make me whole again?
If barren wood could touch this ground, oh, flower it would

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Garden" by The Happy Fits convey a sense of longing for a place of solace and healing. The house with a garden symbolizes a refuge, a sanctuary where one can find peace and happiness. The floral walls lining the trees depict a beautiful and serene environment, where nature intertwines with human existence.

The lyrics further delve into the theme of finding healing and wholeness. The notion of letting the roots grow around and laying down hints at surrendering oneself to the healing power of nature. @lowercase_ash

Guys wanna hear about the story that just came thru my head?

The first verse shows a person moving into a house with a garden, caring for it and becoming come comfortable there

The pre chorus is pretty much the same, showing them being kinda lonely but happy with their home (when it was ripe, how it could fall shows them getting bonked on the head while pruning branches)

Then the chorus is breakdown time! The imagery that comes thru my head is them laying on a floor crying and looking thru the door at the garden outside (and if barren wood could touch this ground oh flower it would)

And then the next verse shows a little bit of backstory in sort of a dreamlike way and the transitions make no sense and the colors are wack but it implies something really bad happening in the past that makes them unable to have a family, either by isolating themselves or actual an physical inability

The last pre-chorus shows them getting up, talking on the phone, driving somewhere and standing at a door

And the last chorus shows them chilling on the ground while getting tackled by small children, and another person cooking or something and basically it all turns out okay

Thanks for coming to my ted talk
