My Soul Finds Rest
Harbourlight Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My soul finds rest in God alone
My salvation comes from Him
He alone is my rock, my fortress
I shall never be shaken
I will trust Him at all times
I will trust Him at all times
Though mountains fall and waters rise
He is the rock that is higher than I

As I fall down at Your feet
You lift me higher
As I fall down at Your feet
You lift me higher

Find rest my soul in God alone
He is mighty to save and unfailing

He alone can lift me higher
Where I'll never be shaken

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Harbourlight's song "My Soul Finds Rest" speak deeply to the idea of finding inner peace and strength through one's faith in God. The opening line, "My soul finds rest in God alone," is a powerful testament to the idea that true comfort can only come from one's spiritual foundation. The singer goes on to express that their salvation comes from God alone, emphasizing their complete trust in Him.

The chorus continues with the affirmation that God is their rock and fortress, a metaphorical symbol of safety and protection. They declare that they will always trust in Him, even when faced with difficult obstacles, such as mountains falling and waters rising. This unwavering faith leads them to conclude that God is the rock that is higher than themselves, a reminder of His infinite power and strength.

The second verse takes on a more personal tone, as the singer expresses their own physical and emotional vulnerability. They "fall down at Your feet," a phrase that suggests submission and dependence, but that also inspires reverence and awe toward God. Here, the lyrics highlight the idea that true strength comes from admitting one's own weakness and seeking comfort in a higher power.

Overall, "My Soul Finds Rest" is a poignant expression of faith and trust that encourages listeners to find comfort and strength in their spiritual foundation, especially during times of difficulty.

Christianity is about sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic.

He is just a personification of the sun.

The sun "dies" for 3 days on December 22nd, the winter solstice, when it stops its movement south, to be born again or resurrected on December 25th, when it resumes its movement north.

In some areas, the calendar originally began in the constellation of Virgo, and the sun would therefore be "born of a Virgin"

The sun rising in the morning is "the saviour of mankind"

The sun "walks on water" is just the reflection of the sun on water/the sea.

"He cometh in the clouds" is just sun rays.

The sun's "followers", "helpers" or "disciples" are the 12 months and the 12 signs of the zodiac or constellations, through which the sun must pass.

The sun at 12 noon is in the house or temple of the "Most High": thus.."he" begins "his Father's work" at "age" 12.

The sun enters into each sign of the zodiac at 30 degrees, hense, the "Sun of God" begins his ministry at "age" 30.

The sun is hung on a cross or "crucified", which represents its passing through the equinoxes.

The vernal equinox being Easter, at which time it is then resurrected.

The reason why saviour myths are so similar with a godman who is crucified and resurrected, who does miracles and has 12 disciples, is that these stories were based on the movements of the sun through the heavens, an astrotheological development that can be found throughout the planet, because the sun and the 12 zodiac signs can be observed around the globe.

In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun through the heavens.

@@Gamefan86 why do you care? What's even the point of saying all of this? You cannot have certainty that Christianity is not true, On the contrary, everything that you say is just a gamble, because you don't know for sure. So you believe that Christianity is a myth, I believe it's not, but there is one truth and one of us is wrong or both of us is wrong, but we cannot both be right.

But you want to know who is right? well, there is someone who is not even right, he's more than that, because he is the truth itself, and his name is Jesus.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
(Joh 14:6)"

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(Joh 3:18)"

@SnowKat-mn9qh

@Elisha I think we're both saying the truth but talking about different things, and therefor confusing each other. Let me explain my side so that maybe we can understand each other's perspective. Your comment, "DO NOT be led to believe we are once saved always saved," confused me a lot at first, but I think I understand what you meant.

Romans 6:1-4 says, "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefor buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
This passage isn't talking about us physically dying like Jesus did; it's talking about how we must die to the world and its desires when we accept Jesus into our hearts and our lives. When we become true followers of Christ, we must die to our sinful lives and desires, and try to live a life according to the Bible. We can't repent for our sins once and then keep living a life of sin because "God forgave me and loves me so it's okay."

To be honest, I used to believe that lie myself. Whenever I was tempted to sin, I would tell myself, "Well, if I sin, I know I'm going to feel genuinely sorry and repent of my sin afterwards. I know that because of that, God will forgive me, so it's fine if I do it." I told myself this in moments when I was torn between what I knew was right and what my sinful nature wanted to do, and I used it to justify letting myself give in to sin. I did this for a long time, until I came across Romans 6:1-4 one day in a Bible study. I felt extremely convicted, because I knew the passage was right. I really realized how much I had been lying to myself, and how wrong I was.

So yes, you are correct. We cannot repent and say sorry for messing up once, and then go back to our sinful nature. Repentance isn't a one-time-thing-and-you're-saved kind of deal. We have to do it every day, because we mess up every day. Just to be clear, repentance means "to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin," according to the dictionary, but another part to it is taking action because of that remorse and actively trying to be better. That's where I had been lying to myself; I felt sorry after I gave in to sin and wanted to be better, but I never actually changed my ways.

I was confused by your statement at first because I interpreted it differently. I thought you meant that even if we fully accept Jesus into our hearts and are saved through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we can be un-saved somehow. This implied that something WE do saves and can unsave us. This baffled me, because being saved by Jesus has nothing to do with us or how "good" we are; salvation is a gift from God. We cannot earn salvation, Jesus gives it to us. He doesn't just hand out eternal salvation to everybody just for free, of course, but that's a whole other can of beans, and this comment is already reeeallly long, so I won't dive into it now. :)

Also, I want to clear up what I said about God loving us no matter what in my first comment. I think you might have interpreted that as me saying, "God FORGIVES us no matter what we do." That's not what I intended to convey. I meant, "God LOVES us no matter what we do."

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8

Sadly, many people, young and old, believe that maybe God stops loving them if they sin. That's not true at all! This verse tells us that God died for us even when we were still sinners and rejected him. God doesn't love us because we obey him, or we're "perfect," like a lot of non-Christians believe that Christians are supposed to be. God loves us like a father loves his children; he loves us the same no matter how much we mess up, because his love is not based on human works. It is not something we can earn or deserve, but rather something that God gives us. We cannot change how much God loves us!

I read a passage just earlier today that I'd like to share. It's Isaiah 43:2-4, and the beginning of verse 5.

2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.
4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you,

God is both powerful and loving, both king of creation and humble, both omnipotent and kind. He is the Lion and the Lamb. It's true; God IS love, but that certainly doesn't mean he's weak. :)

If I misinterpreted anything you said, or I missed something, feel free to reply and correct me. I'm still young and I'm no preacher, and I still have a lot to learn about God's word and my journey as a follower of Christ. It's so awesome to see other strong believers ready to defend the word of God on YouTube!

‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭10:1‬a, 4-5 ‭NKJV‬‬
Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you
by the meekness and gentleness of Christ...
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ,

In meekness and humility Lord, by Your Spirit living and abiding in me, I lay hold of every vain thought and bring it into the captivity of Jesus. Let me stand strong and confident against any argument or clever speech that would exalt itself against You Lord. To speak the truth of Your Word in love, that others would hear and know and believe Your Gospel of Love and Redemption in Christ, Amen.
