Harry James was born in Albany, Georgia, the son of a bandleader of a traveling circus. By age 10 he was taking trumpet lessons from his father. His father had him on a very strict practicing schedule every day. He was given one page to learn out of the Arban's book (a trumpet drill book) every day and could not do anything until he learned that page.
In 1931 the family settled in Beaumont, Texas and James began playing with local dance bands. James joined the nationally popular Ben Pollack in 1935. At the start of 1937 he left Pollack to join Benny Goodman's orchestra, where he stayed through 1938.
In February of 1939 Harry James debuted his own big band in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He continued touring with the band into the 1980s. His was the first "name band" to employ vocalist Frank Sinatra, in 1939. In 1943 he married actress Betty Grable.
His first wife was ex B.Goodman singer.,Louise Tobin.
You can hear his trumpet playing in the 1950 film Young Man with a Horn, dubbing Kirk Douglas. His recording of "I'm Beginning to See the Light" appears in the motion picture My Dog Skip (2000). James recorded many popular records and appeared in many Hollywood movies.
In 1983, James was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer, but he continued to work, playing his last professional job on 26 June 1983 in Los Angeles just nine days before his death in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He's My Guy
Harry James Lyrics

He's my guy, I don't care what he does
'Cause he's my guy, I guess he always was,
He's careless about me, I don't think he tries
But once in a while he'll hug me and smile
Then I can see me in his eyes
Oh he's my guy, I know he'll always be
And I will try to keep him loving me
For nobody knows, better than I
That he's my guy
The lyrics of the song He by Harry James and His Orchestra depict a love that is profound and unwavering even in the face of apathy and neglect. The singer declares that she does not care what her partner does or how he treats her because he is still her guy and always has been. Despite his indifference and lack of effort towards their relationship, the singer still finds joy in the occasional moments of affection he shows her, such as hugging her and smiling. She sees herself reflected in his eyes during these moments, and with that, she knows that he will always be her guy. The singer vows to do whatever it takes to keep him loving her and declares that she belongs to him until death.
The lyrics of He present a complex and layered portrayal of love that can be both empowering and problematic. On the one hand, the singer's unwavering devotion and willingness to endure her partner's neglect is a testament to the transformative power of deep love. However, on the other hand, the singer's willingness to tolerate her partner's neglect can be seen as problematic, suggesting that women should be content with even the slightest gestures of affection and not expect more from their partners. Overall, the lyrics of He are a powerful expression of the complexity of love and the deep emotions that drive it.

I've already explored the music from the mid '50's through the 90's. Found charts back to '42 so wanted to explore those, too. My mother was only 4 years old then. Hope someone keeps this music alive. it is our history.
