Laura
Harry James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know the feeling of something half remembered
Of something that never happened, yet you recall it well
You know the feeling of recognizing someone
That you've never met as far as you could tell, well

Laura is the face in the misty light
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summer night
That you can never quite recall
And you see Laura on the train that is passing through
Those eyes, how familiar they seem

She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura but she's only a dream

Overall Meaning

The song 'Laura' by Harry James tells the story of a person who experiences a feeling of nostalgia or déjà vu to a woman who they only half-remember. It is a poignant and insightful tale about the impact of love and dreams in one's life. The lyrics are well-crafted, evoking imagery of a mysterious, haunting, and elusive woman.

The opening lines of the song capture the essence of the feeling of something half-remembered. It describes the sensation of a memory that remains clear and vivid in the mind, yet it cannot be placed in terms of events or people. The lyrics capture the ambiguity of emotions that come with this experience - like recognizing someone that you have never met, as far as you can tell.

The song centers around the figure Laura, who represents the ideal woman that the singer spent a lifetime chasing. She is described as the face in the misty light, footsteps that you hear down the hall, and the laugh that floats on a summer night that you can never quite recall. She embodies what is best and worst in our past, a dream that once held everything, but now only serves to haunt us.

Overall, the lyrics of 'Laura' are an insightful portrayal of how the past can impact the present, shaping our desires and dictating our dreams.

Foi genial... via ao vivo em 78. Hj o estilo é ultrapassado...mas foi um grande trompetista.

The music is good (as usual) and the girl on the cover is beautiful! Doris Day on vocals sounds great! However, Harry James was never one of my favorites though. I prefer Bobby Hackett over HJ incessant vibrato playing.

I know you mean Bobby Hackett.. or maybe you don't since you have no idea
what genius sounds like.

tony salvatore

Ouch. That hurt. I hope you haven't lost your way. The God
inspired genius that brought us Kingdom Melodies needs to
keep fulfilling his ministry.
God Love You
