You Made Me Love You
Harry James Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You made me love you
I didn't wanna do it
I didn't wanna do it
You made me want you
And all the time you knew it
I guess you always knew it

You made me happy sometimes
You made me glad
But there were times
You made me feel so bad

You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do

Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you

You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do

You know I do

Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses

That I'd die for
You know you made me love you

It seems that back in the day, there were those fans of Harry's hot playing of his Goodman stint and early bandleading career who were not especially delighted by this one and the trend it spawned in the James orchestra's output -- but, obviously, most people felt differently, as this is the side that really launched this aggregation, which had been scuffling in its first two years of existence. Romantic that I am, I adore this record. The strings, the eight bars apiece from first the trombones and then the reeds, and of course, Harry's two turns are beautiful.

"Schmaltz" was the term the critics threw around derogatorily.

@leelarson107

Nothing kept The Maestro Harry James from being jailed as the greatest trumpet player in history. No one will ever be able to do what he did.

@leelarson107

I just caught that typo. Make that 'hailed', not 'jailed'.
