Shadows
Haster Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As the shadows consume the room in the night,
Our flame was stolen from the phantom.
He's hanging the noose, we say our goodbyes.
His mask I remove… and I see me.
They're trying to prove him wrong in his eyes,
They tried to assume that we can't handle.
He's hanging the noose… we say our goodbyes.
This time I refuse…. But I see me.

Cuz here I'm glued. Enticed by undiscovered,
Sanity that's overdue. Remaining still denies the truth.
Its time to move. Its time to move. Before we're through.

Left cold in this room, our torn past resides,
But will always remain lest we change perspective.
Our hearts might be true but if intention is blind,
To confronting our faults…. Then history…

Repeats itself. Enticed by undiscovered,
Sanity that's overdue. Remaining still denies the truth.

Eyes fogged up and blind. My timid alibi.
Victim in mind. I'm stuck asking why.

Its time to move. Its time to move. Before we're through.

I've denied the faults I'm now defined by…
Uncovered out for the world to see.
My mask has fallen to the wayside…
I struggle but I cannot retrieve.
Its gone. And I can only grow up. Please…
Move on. Move on. Move on.
And though we fail,
We can succeed.
And though we struggle,
We can be free.
We can be free.

Like we always knew…
The time for peace draws near…
From separation…

Our home…
In shambles.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Haster's "Shadows" describe a situation where darkness and gloom dominate the atmosphere. It appears that something has been lost or stolen, as the "phantom" has taken "our flame". The persona seems to be bidding goodbye to someone, while the phantom is hanging a noose. However, despite the gloom, the persona says they refuse to go. The writer is trying to prove the phantom wrong and to resist his advances. In line with the theme of the unknown, there is a suggestion that the persona might be enticed by the undiscovered but should move on before it is too late. The lyrics ask us to confront our faults and grow up as we also strive to be free.
