Dangerous Vision
Hawkwind Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Night sky and city
Keeps us in
Life signs of pity weep within
Games of reality are hard to win
The child of the Third World looks so thin
Dangerous visions, taunt me
Ancient memories, haunt me
Future decisions, confuse me
The story so far just eludes me
The man on the pavement catches your eye
You look in amazement, he's decided to die
The crowd have engagements, they're just passing by

The child of the Third World, is wondering why

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hawkwind's song "Dangerous Vision" appear to draw attention towards the stark contrast between the night sky and city, with a mix of compassion and despair towards the people living in the city. It talks about the harsh reality that people living in Third World countries are subjected to, with the child in the Third World appearing thin and helpless. The lyrics also talk about the difficulty in dealing with reality and the uncertainties of the future, as decisions can be confusing and memories make it hard to move forward. The song highlights the alienation felt by people, with the last few lines describing the lack of empathy shown towards the man dying on the pavement, and the child wondering why such things happen.
