The Seduction
He Is Legend Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where did she go I do not know, And which direction was it snowing?
I'll turn around again, Paint over pictures on the wall
I can't believe she gave me alcohol
I thought of Jezebel
Hung from a wrecking ball to see a fashion show
I think you knew me so well

Juliet you know you want it!

I've been receiving strange phone calls from the city
I will not extend my hand to the general
And I do not think the people will remember us
I hung from a wrecking ball to see your fashion show
I think you know me well

I'm still receiving strange phone calls from the city
And I will not extend my hand to the general
And I do not think the people will remember us
I hung from a wrecking ball to see your fashion show
I think you knew me well

I've been jumping over buildings, I've been sleeping in the street
"Mr. Jones" will be right with you if you would just have a seat
Well I'll meet you at the river where we both can clear our heads
I think we would look great dead.

I've got to find the princess, she's in another castle
I'm dancing with the Capulet
We're so "crazy in love"

Juliet you know you want it!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of He Is Legend's song, The Seduction, tell a story of a man looking for a woman, who may or may not be real or may have disappeared. He is confused and unsure of where he is going, and he keeps receiving strange phone calls from the city. The man seems to have a drinking problem, which he attributes to the woman, whom he calls Jezebel, giving him alcohol. He reminisces about hanging from a wrecking ball, a metaphorical image that suggests he is stuck and helpless, to see someone's fashion show, perhaps the same woman he is searching for. The repetition of the line "I think you knew me well" suggests that he is talking to the woman who may know him better than he knows himself.

The song's chorus, which repeats the line, "Juliet you know you want it" is a reference to Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." The man likens himself to Romeo, who is in love with Juliet, and believes he is seducing her. The repeated use of the name Juliet is also a direct reference to the play, as Juliet is Romeo's love interest. The line "I've got to find the princess, she's in another castle" is a reference to the video game, Super Mario Bros., where the singer, Mario, has to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser, his arch-nemesis. The line is used to suggest that the woman the man is looking for is not in the place he expects her to be.
