Flat as a Pancake would remain their most popular album spawning two charting singles, the well-known anthem "Never Been Any Reason" and "Love Me tonight", both written by guitarist Mike Somerville.
This lineup of John Schlitt (vocals), Mike Somerville (guitars), Roger Boyd (keyboards), Dan Birney (bass) and Steve Huston (drums) would last through four more studio albums and a double-LP live album when in 1980 Schlitt, Birney and Somerville left the band although Somerville would return for 1994 through 2003. By the mid-80’s, John Schlitt, had joined Petra, a christian rock band when lead singer Greg X. Volz left the band.
Roger Boyd took over leadership of the band for one mildly successful album, U.S. 1, and two more studio albums before the band became an oldies act

We didn't know what to do
Knockin' our romances, we took the chances
That a lot of us do
Well, we've seen strange places
We fell on our faces
It was all on the line
Cause we believed in what we were
A reason to carry on
Is the feelin' when the music's done
Maybe we'll take someone's whole life
(And) turn their head around
Open up the door
Listen to me you've got to help me
I can't help myself
It's been a long long time
Wish it were mine
I can't help myself
I've been searchin' everywhere
Lookin' here and there
And I finally see
It may take forever and it never
But will you listen to me
A reason to carry on
Is the feelin' when the music's done
Maybe we'll take someone's whole life
(And) turn their head around
It's a reason to carry on, it's a reason to carry
Open up the door
A reason to carry on
Is the feelin' when the music's done
Maybe we'll take someone's whole life
And turn their head around
Open up the door oh oh
A reason to carry on
Is a feelin' when the music's done
Maybe we'll take someone's whole life
Turn their head around
It's a reason to carry on
It's a reason to carry on
Open up the door
