Life Goes On...
Heart in Hand Lyrics

Heart in Hand's song "Life Goes On" reflects on the pain, heartbreak, and eventual acceptance that comes with the end of a significant relationship. The opening lines, "I'll swallow my pride and walk away, There's nothing I can do, there's nothing you can say," speak of a sense of resignation and the inevitability of parting ways. The singer acknowledges the futility of trying to mend what is broken, recognizing that despite the hurt, life must go on.
As the lyrics progress, the singer expresses the emotional turmoil they are going through, likening the feeling to their heart being "smashed into tiny fragments." This deep emotional pain is contrasted with a sense of isolation and loneliness, as they grapple with the upheaval caused by the end of the relationship. The phrase "Try and make things right? Life goes on" underscores the idea that despite the desire to reconcile or fix things, life moves forward inexorably.
The theme of resilience and moving forward in the face of adversity is further emphasized in the lines, "I'll pick myself back up and carry on, Forever looking forward (Never looking back!)." The singer resolves to not dwell on the past but to keep moving towards the future, refusing to be weighed down by regrets. The idea of learning from experiences, even those that have caused pain, is reflected in the acknowledgment that "Everything happens for a reason, Lessons learned and bridges burnt." This acceptance allows the singer to find a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to continue on their journey.
The song also touches upon the raw emotions of betrayal and hurt, with the singer grappling with the pain inflicted by the actions of their former partner. The plea for honesty and the disbelief that their feelings were overlooked or disregarded highlight the complex emotions at play. Despite the sadness and disappointment, the singer ultimately chooses to prioritize their own well-being and emotional health by walking away. The uncertainty of the future and the questioning of whether their story will have a happy ending serves as a poignant reminder of the bittersweet nature of relationships and the unpredictable paths life can take. The recurring refrain, "This isn't how things should be," underscores the singer's struggle to come to terms with the reality of the situation while also hinting at a sense of hope for better days ahead.
