Disconnected
Heartist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, my feet have carried me beyond your memories to places you cannot be. Breathe in the oxygen where I am. I know you can feel me, the hairs stand on your neck. Can you remember what brought us here, or are you just as lost as I am? When will we find our way back home?

I'm disconnected from the ones above. I'm disconnected from the ones who fell in between. And I'll stray from this pathway though there's still nothing left of me.

Oh, but now they bury me. How could you let me be sucked in by the ones that dwell beneath?

So I wave goodbye to my past as I stray on my own. Now I walk alone.
Fall from grace so I can earn my place. Leave no trace so I can finally say, goodbye.

Overall Meaning

The opening lyrics to Heartist's song "Disconnected" suggest a sense of physical separation between two people. The singer indicates that their feet have carried them beyond the memories of the person they are addressing, to a place where they cannot be. The use of the phrase "breathe in the oxygen where I am" suggests that this separation is not just physical, but emotional: the two people are no longer on the same wavelength. Despite this, the singer suggests that there is still a connection between them – the hairs stand up on the other person's neck when they are near. This connection might be a nostalgic one, given the rhetorical question that closes the opening stanza: "can you remember what brought us here, or are you just as lost as I am?"

The song's chorus suggests a broader disconnect between the singer and "the ones above" (perhaps a reference to authority figures or to traditional sources of wisdom), and "the ones who fell in between" (perhaps people who have strayed from a particular path or ideology). The singer is clearly feeling isolated and disconnected from the larger community, and yet they indicate that they will "stray from this pathway" regardless of this disconnection. This suggests a kind of radical independence – the singer will walk alone, even if nobody else is by their side. The final lines of the song reinforce this sense of isolation and separation: the singer has apparently fallen from grace, but in doing so they hope to "earn [their] place." They will "leave no trace" so that they can "finally say goodbye" to something (perhaps the expectations of others?) that they perceive as holding them back.

sick guys, I love it

Our vocalist, Bryce, performed all of the vocals on the recordings, both the singing & screaming. For live shows, he still performs all of the vocals. Tim doubles up on some screams with Bryce live. Jon sings harmonies with Bryce in the choruses live. Hope this clears up some confusion! We don't have two vocalists :]

This band and this song explains a lot about how unfair music industry is. They should ve been much more bigger than they are now. So sad :/

Absolute amazing musical talent wasted.

When I hear a vocalist doing such amazing high cleans, I instantly start being afraid about his live performances in the future. Most vocalists of that kind can't provide the same live.
