Drawing on influences like Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Cure and U2, Daniel and Free produced the song "Woven," which led to a record deal with Wax Trax!/TVT records in 1996. The duo relocated to Los Angeles, CA and configured a dual studio setup in a house in the San Fernando valley and began experimenting with new methods of sound design, primarily using hardware samplers and software. Three years later their self-produced record "Searching For The End" was released, featuring additional programming on the song "Pay Me No Mind" by Charlie Clouser (Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, "Saw", "Numb3rs") and guest guitar-work from Bern Locker (Urban Voodoo) on "Army of One". Critical response was overwhelmingly positive, but conflicts with and dwindling support from TVT records caused the duo to put the Hednoize project on hiatus. The instrumental non-album track Skullsplitter made its way onto three seperate movie soundtracks throughout 2000 and 2001, namely Gossip, Charlie's Angels and Scary Movie 2, however the song was never made available on any physical retail-release.
In 2008 TVT Records filed bankruptcy and Hednoize is once again a free agent. That same year, Daniel Lenz released his debut solo album, Stuck In a Dream featuring appearances from both Daniels and former Psykosonik frontman Paul Sebastien. Besides producing music for various film and TV soundtracks, Lenz is reportedly currently working on new Hednoize material with Daniels.
