The Unforgiven
Heinzmann Stefanie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man strugggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away-eay

Chorus

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

They dedicate their lives
To RUNING all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me

Chorus*2

Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee unforgiven
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee unforgiven
Never Free

Never Me
So I dub thee unforgiven

Overall Meaning

The song ‘The Unforgiven’ by Heinzmann Stefanie is a powerful piece of music that speaks to the struggle of individuality and self-discovery. The opening lines suggest the arrival of a new life on earth, but the following lines indicate a response from society that can best be described as subduing the new soul. The young boy is taught to live by society’s rules, which leads to the deprivation of the child’s own thoughts. However, the boy tries to stay true to himself and vows that this will never change. He will remain in charge of his own will.

The chorus of the song reiterates what the young man is feeling. He cannot express what he has truly felt and known, and his true self is yet to shine through. He has never been free and has always been confined within society’s framework of rules, which does not allow him to be himself. Thus, he is dubbed ‘unforgiven’. The latter half of the song expresses the old man’s regret at having tried to please everyone throughout his life, leading to a tired and bitter existence. He eventually prepares to die, wishing for something different to what his life ended up being.
