Dying All the Time
Helen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, what do you know, he smiled at me in my dreams last night
My dreams are getting better all the time
And, what do you know, he smiled at me in a different light
My dreams are getting better all the time

To think that we were strangers a couple of nights ago
And though it's a dream, I never dreamed he'd ever say hello
Oh, maybe tonight I'll hold him tight when the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time

To think that we were strangers a couple of nights ago
And though it's a dream, I never dreamed he'd ever say hello

Oh, maybe tonight I'll hold him tight when the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Helen Forrest's song "Bidin' My Time" express a sense of optimism and hopefulness in the singer's dreams. The opening lines, "Well, what do you know, he smiled at me in my dreams last night, My dreams are getting better all the time," depict the joy and excitement the singer feels when the person they desire finally acknowledges them in their dreams. It suggests that their dreams have been improving, becoming more positive and fulfilling.

The lyrics continue with, "And, what do you know, he smiled at me in a different light, My dreams are getting better all the time." This line indicates that not only is the person they desire acknowledging them, but they are doing so in a way that is different and perhaps more affectionate than before. It reinforces the idea that their dreams are becoming more satisfying and wish-fulfilling.

The next stanza reflects on the initial status of their relationship, with the lyrics, "To think that we were strangers a couple of nights ago, And though it's a dream, I never dreamed he'd ever say hello." This highlights the surprising and unexpected nature of their connection. Despite it being a dream, the singer never anticipated that the person they desire would even acknowledge their existence. It emphasizes the power of dreams to manifest unexpected outcomes.

The final lines of the song express the singer's hope for a future outcome, saying, "Oh, maybe tonight I'll hold him tight when the moonbeams shine, My dreams are getting better all the time." Here, the singer envisions a scenario where they finally get to embrace and hold the person they desire. It signifies their growing optimism and belief that their dreams will continue to improve. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of longing, hope, and the transformative power of dreams.

This is my first time listening. I'm glad I found out she had some sort of side project. She also has a few tunes with that Ilyas Ahmed dude. She is just full of beautiful love and art. Shes one of the most gifted I think in our modern world of music. I remember first listening to grouper a couple of years ago while going through some shit. And I will say grouper (Liz harris) her music has become a big part of me and my world of music. It's crazy how her music or music in general gets you through the processes. Fuck I'm rambling, and I wanna ramble more. Oh well dope song. Good find.

They've put their hearts and souls into this record really. It's so complete. As a night jogging soundtrack, it makes every little part of me full of happiness. I can compare it only to few experiences, like having best time with my lover or my first mescaline trip.
