Since its inception, Helloween has released 16 studio albums, three live albums, three EPs and 30 singles, was honored with 14 gold and six platinum awards and has sold more than ten million records worldwide. Helloween has been referred to as the "fathers of power metal", as well as one of the so-called "big four" of the genre's early German scene, along with Grave Digger, Rage and Running Wild, and as one of power metal "big four" overall, along with Blind Guardian, Sabaton and DragonForce.

"The Smile of the Sun" by Helloween is a song about loss, loneliness, and the search for hope in a world that seems to offer none. The lyrics depict a person who feels like they have lost everything that matters, and the pain has left them paralyzed. They are alone in a world that offers no light, no hope, and no joy, and they ask if anybody is out there to help them.
The opening lines show how the person feels like they have lost their ability to feel or heal - they are numb to the world. They are not sure if it is night or day, as their world is filled with darkness. The chorus, "The smile of the sun was stolen, someone has taken away the heart of all day" highlights how the person feels as though they have lost the only thing that brings light into their world. The hopelessness of the situation is further highlighted by the lines, "everybody is waiting for the one, everyone will freeze to death alone."
The song's lyrics are a plea for help, a cry for hope in a world that seems devoid of it. The singer realizes they need to breathe, move, and get back their life.
