Turn It Up
Henry Lee Summer Lyrics

Yeeoww
I ain't never been apart of anybodies little craze
I never knew the latest dances, do the latest rage
Well fashion never was one of my sorta suits
I just can't seem to get past blue jeans, tennis shoes
Well I remember e'vry body's doin' the Saturday Night Fever
I was diggin' Lynyrd Skynyrd, B.T.O., and Bob Seger
All night long
Well I never got off on that punk rock scene
I couldn't see me in a mohawk if you know what I mean
And then "My Sharona" played a million thousand times
I thought to shout out to someone I was gonna lose my mind
Everybody got nervous, grew sick, gotta fever
I was diggin' Lynyrd Skynyrd, B.T.O., and Bob Seger
All right
Here we go
Well, Turn it up, yeah
Let the good times roll
Turn it up
I got that old time music, In my soul
Yes I do
Well I heard it on the TV set that rap is where it's at
I kinda liked it myself the way the ratta-tatta tat
Ahhh
Well I need a feelin' down deep in my soul
I gotta have the house of rock, and gotta hear the mojo flow
Well I need people singin' to get that old time feelin'
While I'm diggin' Lynyrd Skynyrd, R.E.O., and Bob Seger
All night long
Well, Turn it up, turn it up
Let the good times roll, let it roll
Turn it up
I got to Rock and Roll aahhhh
Turn it up
Let the freedom sing, yeah
Turn it up
I got the old time music

Yeahhhhhhh Oww
whooo

Overall Meaning

In the song "Turn It Up" by Henry Lee Summer, he expresses his distaste for popular mainstream trends and music. Summer claims that he is not a part of anyone's "little craze" and that he never knew the latest dances or fashions. He reminisces on past musical eras, specifically the Saturday Night Fever phenomenon and the punk rock movement. Summer never got into the punk rock scene and found himself digging the classic rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, B.T.O., and Bob Seger. He then mentions the excessive airtime that the song "My Sharona" received and how he was on the verge of losing his mind. Regardless of what's trending, Summer simply wants to hear his old time music and rock and roll. He needs to feel it deep in his soul and believes that the music of the past is the only way to achieve that feeling.

I was checking out lyrics sites on this song and every one of them has the last reference to "Lynyrd Skynyrd, B.T.O. & Bob Seger" as "Lynyrd Skynyrd, R.E.O. & Bob Seger" - it's the part after he sings about "rap is where it's at". Anybody hear R.E.O.? Plus on Discogs the song is listed on the 1991 album "Way Past Midnight" as Tune It Up.
