Lollipops and Roses
Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell her you care each time you speak
Make it her birthday each day of the week
Bring her nice things, sugar and spice things
Roses and lollipops and lollipops and roses

One day she'll smile, next day she'll cry
Minute to minute you'll never know why
Coax her, pet her, better yet, get her
Roses and lollipops and lollipops and roses

We try acting grown up but as a rule
We're all little children fresh from school
So carry her books that's how it starts
Fourteen or forty they're kids in their hearts

Keep them handy, flowers and candy
Roses and lollipops and lollipops and roses

So carry her books that's how it starts
Fourteen or forty they're kids in their hearts

Keep them handy, flowers and candy
Roses and lollipops and lollipops and roses

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Lollipops and Roses" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass suggest a romantic approach to relationships. The song tells the listener to express their affection to their partner on a daily basis by telling them how much they care about them. Additionally, it encourages individuals to surprise their loved one with small gifts, such as sugar and spice things, lollipops, and roses. The song suggests that by showing someone you care, they will smile more and cry less, which means that they will feel happier and more content.

Moreover, the song emphasizes that adults are not as mature as they appear to be, and that deep down, they are all still children. It states that by starting small - by carrying their partner's books, for example - individuals can build and strengthen their relationships over time. The theme of the song is that through consistent acts of kindness and appreciation, people can develop deep and meaningful connections.

Cocktail parties, whiskey sours, highballs, a carton of smokes, and Herb Alpert on the stereo--ahhhh the 60's in all its glory!!

@frankmicman

Whipped Cream sold over 6 million copies in the United States and the album cover alone is considered a classic pop culture icon. It featured model Dolores Erickson wearing chiffon and shaving cream. The picture was taken at a time when Erickson was three months pregnant. The cover was so popular with Alpert fans that, during concerts, when about to play the song "Whipped Cream", Alpert would tell the audience, "Sorry, we can't play the cover for you!"

@kcsnow9447

If you look closely you can she's actually outfitted (and I use the word loosely :D) in a white blanket dotted with that shaving cream. Shot in the photographer's garage as I recall.
Still the BEST album cover on any LP or CD ever.
