@Tyler Suter I'm a prog rock fan, trying to find good prog from today and I try to find as much music from today as possible but the 70's were a golden era, even the production in those old tunes,it was all new and fresh back then, there are alot of bands I do like from today though,Snarky Puppy being one of them.
There aren't many prog bands at all around today that thrill me,70's are the decade of prog especially British and Italian prog, bands were super creative back then,Tull's live show was like theatre, just don't see bands pushing boundaries musically but also spiritually.
Listen to the way the rhodes sounds on this piece.
I would be happy for you to recommend some inspiring music from today,Snarky Puppy is doing it but the cupboard is bare as far as great prog rock,it may be more technical but the musicality and goosebump factor aint there.
Another great band from the 70's ,Brand X,they had a real prog rock element to their compositions for a jazz fusion group, gave the music more dimension.
It's funny how classical orchestras still play those hundreds of year old classics by the great composers like alot of us still cherishing the true greatness of the 70's.
Kamasi Washington is very indigative of today's music, great playing but stripped of true emotion.

Go listen to Yes Tales On Topographic Oceans,Genesis Wind And Wuthering or The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway or Jethro Tull's a Passion Play, sublime music.
Most of today's progg bands are riff based ,more hard rock bands than prog rock bands, really dated more than the 70's stuff,I will keep searching though, mainly the best stuff from today is jazz, bebop.
Mahavishnu Orchestra ,Zappa 70's ,now find bands like that !!!!!!!!!! and I will kiss your feet lol.

LOL ,all these bands sound more dated than the 70's ones, riff based bland and chessy.

I have to be honest - while there are many songs I've listened to that I love, and have meaning to me, none is as important as "Butterfly". It's transcendent. It's like my soul pouring out. Thank you, Herbie Hancock, and everyone in this band, not sure my life would be the same without having heard this as a teen, and coming back to it all my life.

Thrust is worth having for this song alone. Has to be one of his greatest compositions

Agree! One of the most beautiful ballads ever. The possibilities it offers to create a beautiful exotic mood are demonstrated on his live album.
