Leave
Heroin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got away from coming to where I was coming from.
I got away. We're just thinking of our selves.
We're just taking side. We're just just selfish.
I got away. You leave.

Everyone seems to just be a product of their environment or their surroundings.
I know that's a well-known fact, but its sick that so many kids will go through the motions.
I mean, what are you trying to and what are you trying to prove?
Without question, if you're not really concerned, then okay,

But it seems to me we are just wasting our time,

Sometimes it's good to think that I am at least a little bit different from most of my generation.
I saw them grow up so fast.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics from Heroin's song "Leave" talk about the feeling of getting away from where you came from and leaving behind the selfishness that comes with being part of a generation that seems to be just going through the motions. The first line states "I got away from coming to where I was coming from," which portrays the feeling of being lost and trying to break free from the past. The lines that follow suggest that everyone is just thinking of themselves, taking sides, being selfish, which can make one feel disconnected from their surroundings.

The song seems to be a commentary on youth culture that often appears to be indifferent and unattached. The lyricist makes a statement on the futility of such a lifestyle, asking what one is trying to do, and what they are trying to prove. It then goes on to suggest that if one is not concerned or does not have any questions, then it’s okay. But the implication here is that we should be concerned and question what we do, as we might be wasting our time just going through the motions.

The final line, "I saw them grow up so fast," adds an air of melancholy to the song. It suggests that the lyrics come from someone who is older and has seen the younger generation grow up before their eyes, a generation that is more concerned with themselves rather than the world around them. The song is a commentary on that, as well as a call to action to break free from that cycle.

Great band, great guys. I remember, they would take boxes of grocery bags from where they worked and silk scream on them to make their album covers.

NoEsUnYoutuber

Your misspelling of "silk screen" makes me want to start a screamo band called Silk Scream.

Blind Guardian

William Skillman That's DIY at it's finest.

Pretty damn cool- I missed this band at the time; too busy with my own gigs in the early '90s I guess.  I'd be willing to bet that these guys listened to a lot of Negative Approach growing up...

LOL! I saw these guys back in the early 90s, and booked such shows in my hometown. I was calling this style screamo back in the early 90s. Just because some commercial act hijacked that term doesn't really change anything from my perspective.

Cataduanes

I can still remember the first time I slapped the vinyl of this on my old stereo back in the day, they blew me away.

Great live band, everybody gotta see some live heroin video somewhere, because that was a great fucking band live.
