Simple but good comparison.
1st - Spector
2nd - Schecter
3rd - Marleaux

¡TrODD!

My 2 cts.: Spector - Schecter - Sandberg - LTD. I own both Spector and Sandberg, although 4-string models.
Comparing the fretless Marelaux I find problematic, but she is under the top 3.

The LTD is definitely too articulate for this song but can be tamed with settings. It definitely has the best B string of the bunch though (sounds like a piano!) and it's handy when I want to play some genres. The neck is way chonky and wide though and in combination with the tiny body it leads to a great deal of neck dive. The Spector is my favorite to play and the most comfortable. It becomes much more articulate with some treble boost added but the hiss it generates almost necessitates some distortion to cover it up. The Marleaux I included only because I just got it and I needed some practice playing it because I've never used a fretless bass before. Thanks for your input!

Really, really like the LTD and the Schecter. Either one would be a fantastic choice.

Spector and Schecter are the ones I would like to have

Pretty sure I like the fretless bass sound best of the several to pick from. If not from sound alone then physical beauty as the tie breaker....

Just wait until I actually learn to play the beastie!

If the Spector is using the Tonepump, it isn't boost only, FYI. They keep advertising it this way due to some miscommunication mistake way back, but it's been confirmed that it's boost & cut. Though at around 20%, you're probably close to a flat setting. All the basses sound good, I guess my least favorite was the Schecter which sounded a bit dull compared to the others.

Thanks for the info and for watching! The Spector is decidedly the most comfortable and the easiest to play, even with its 35" scale. IMO any bass with an active boost/cut circuit should have pots with a detente at neutral, even if the detente needs to be off-center. The treble (and to some extent the bass) are not very useful for solo play beyond about 50% due to noise (both hiss and RFI). Higher settings generally work fine with a busy backing track or with distortion though.
The Schecter was really dull with the original strings but perked up some when I changed to NYXLs shortly after I got it. It's still a lot less bright than the other basses except for the Sandberg which sounds really dark to me. All the other basses have the original strings they came with. (Contra has flat-wounds.)

You didn't spend much time on the B string, which for comparing 5 strings is the most important.
