Since Last Wednesday
Highasakite Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He would never do grafitti or vandalize that house
And he would never be caught spray painting on those peoples walls

But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
Oh oh oh oh

And he would never buy a weapon and bring it to our home
And he would never be foolish and lie about that now

But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh

But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
Hold me forward is one option but not the only one
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
Call me forward is one option but not the only one

But no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday
Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Highasakite's song Since Last Wednesday refer to a mysterious disappearance of someone who is known for being responsible and who would never do anything illegal or harmful. The first verse talks about how this person would never do graffiti or vandalize someone's house, but despite that, no one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday. The second verse talks about how he would never buy a weapon or make a foolish lie, but again, there is no trace of him since last Wednesday. The chorus repeats that no one has seen or heard from him, and the options of moving forward by either holding or calling are mentioned, but are not the only ones.

My thoughts on meaning...The progression of the lyrics seems to point to trust, skepticism and curiosity.
1) He would NEVER do graffiti...(Trust)
2) But then again "He would NEVER be caught vandalizing" (Skepticism)
3) Hmmm..."No one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday" (Curiosity)

Personal example
1) "He would NEVER bring a gun to our home..."
2) But if he did "He wouldn't be so foolish to lie about it now" (personal validation)
3) Hmmm..."No one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday" (Curiosity

The gun seems to have been a point of contention in their relationship. His lack foolishness is not credit to his own character but in her anger attributing a character she hopes he has(he better not!)

"Hold me forward...call me forward"...her trust dwindles. You can do things your way, but it's not the only way.

There seems to be an air of mystery surrounding this man but the story teller seems to be the one confused about his motives. Feels she can trust/knows him and what he would or wouldn't do. Is he good or up to no good? Is this the man I know?...the only confirmation to her suspicions is...

"No one has seen or heard from him since last Wednesday"

He seems to have been dealing with an inner turmoil that he's yet to express to her. At the end of the video we see that he goes back to her in plain view of what/who he is after what seems to be deliberate contemplation...she accepts him for who she now sees he is. But all may not be behind him as the story continues with the other masked men coming up the elevator...exposing the depth of his escapades since last Wednesday

Norway honestly has some of the most underrated music ever!

@HalleHamar

On behalf of 50% of the population in Hamar, I thank you for these kind words. But for us norwegians this song is not intended for amusing entertainment - we are actually looking for this dude that disappeared last wednesday!

In USA they use milk cartoons to search for lost ones, but in Norway we write songs and broadcast them on the radio to spread the message. I must admit we're losing hope in finding him, since the songwriter actually forgot to describe his appearance and only focused on how harmless and kind he is/was. That description fits most norwegian men, so it's like looking for a needle in a pincushion.

The songwriter also forgot to mention the date he disappeared, so all we know is that it happened on a wednesday few weeks ago. We don't even know which city, but I keep my eyes open every day while taking a walk with my shadow and imaginary dog.

These ladies/guys just opened up for Of Monsters and Men in Toronto at Massey Hall and they just blew me away! They are so much better live but because I can't listen to them live every day recording's will have to do. If you get a chance to see these guys live, please do! Her voice is unbelievable! So much control.

The first time I saw Highasakite perform was when they opened for OMAM back in March in NYC, I was completely mesmerized from the beginning. Ingrid's voice is captivating. Had to see them again in June. If you ever have a chance to see them live, do it! And of course, OMAM were just as incredible.

I remember downloading this as iTunes free song of the week. Love it.
