Hillsong - Worship Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Did you feel the mountains tremble?
Did you hear the oceans roar?
When the people rose to sing of
Jesus Christ, the risen one

Did you feel the people tremble?
Did you hear the singers roar?
When the lost began to sing of
Jesus Christ, the saving one

And we can see that God you're moving
A mighty river through the nations
And young and old will turn to Jesus
Fling wide you heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen one

Open up the doors and let the music play
Let the streets resound with singin'
Songs that bring Your hope and
Songs that bring Your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice

Do you feel the darkness tremble
When all the saints join in one song?
And all the streams flow as one river
To wash away our brokenness

And here we see that God, you're moving
A time of jubilee is coming
When young and old return to Jesus
Fling wide you heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Open up the doors and let the music play
Let the streets resound with singin'
Songs that bring Your hope and
Songs that bring Your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice

And we can see that God, you're moving
A time of jubilee is coming
When young and old return to Jesus
Fling wide you heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord, yeah, yeah

Open up the doors and let the music play
And let the streets resound with singin'
Songs that bring Your hope and
Songs that bring Your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice

Open up the doors and let the music play
And let the streets resound with singin'

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?" paint an image of a powerful and invigorating worship experience. The song invites the listener to reflect upon the awesome power of God and the transformative effect that faith in Jesus can have on individuals and communities. The opening lines use poetic language to evoke natural phenomena like the shaking of mountains and the roaring of oceans, linking them to the act of spiritual awakening that comes from singing about the risen Christ. The lyrics then shift to a focus on the power of communal song and how it can bring hope and joy to those who hear it. The imagery of dancers who "dance upon injustice" suggests that worship isn't just about personal spiritual expression, but also an opportunity to engage with social justice issues.

The song also emphasizes the universality of faith, portraying God as a force that moves through nations and generations. The repetition of the phrase "filing wide you heavenly gates" suggests both an openness to new believers and an urgent need for more people to embrace the message of Christ. Throughout the song, the lyrics alternate between description and exhortation, inviting listeners to join in the joyful, transformative experience of worship.

I have many worship songs that I love but this one.... THIS work of beautiful art, THIS gift, THIS anointed & colorful fabric of music & passionate voices, woven together with a great cloud of witnesses & brushes of angels wings and breath... THIS song is FAR & AWAY my absolute personal favorite worship song of all time!

What a blessing to be able to go to my quiet place, put on my earbuds and fall before His holy presence, worshipping the Lord in SPIRIT & TRUTH. Also experiencing a little bit of this amazing time & place when this gathering assembled, to worship our master, our savior and friend. Thank you Hillsong and thanks for sharing.

Whoever is reading this, may the Lord of Lords bless you today and forevermore.

Well said! No doubt about it...nothing else even comes close. Lyrics aside, it's fantastic composition; the lyrics, of course, take it to the next level.

I'm not a Christian. I grew up as one. But I listen to this everyday one day I'm gonna be one again. This song breaks me down and gives me hope. How could anyone hate this song. There is evil inside of you
