seasons
Hillsong Worship Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Like the frost on a rose
Winter comes for us all
Oh how nature acquaints us
With the nature of patience
Like a seed in the snow
I've been buried to grow
For Your promise is loyal
From seed to sequoia

I know
Though the winter is long even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come

Lord I think of Your love
Like the low winter sun
And as I gaze I am blinded
In the light of Your brightness
And like a fire to the snow
I'm renewed in Your warmth
Melt the ice of this wild soul
'Til the barren is beautiful

And I know
Though the winter is long even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come

I can see the promise
I can see the future
You're the God of seasons
And I'm just in the winter
If all I know of harvest
Is that it's worth my patience
Then if You're not done working
God I'm not done waiting

You can see my promise
Even in the winter
'Cause You're the God of greatness
Even in a manger
For all I know of seasons
Is that You take Your time
You could have saved us in a second
Instead You sent a child, oh

Though the winter is long even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come

And when I finally see my tree
Still I believe there's a season to come

Like a seed You were sown
For the sake of us all

From Bethlehem's soil
Grew Calvary's sequoia

Overall Meaning

Hillsong Worship's song Seasons is a beautiful, uplifting reminder that even when going through an extended period of waiting, there is still strength to be gained and potential to be fulfilled. The song begins by referencing the cyclical nature of nature, using the image of winter to convey the message that this season of waiting, though sometimes challenging, is ultimately necessary for growth. The use of the seed metaphor drives home the idea that even though it may not be immediately apparent, the waiting period is merely part of a greater process that will lead to a bountiful harvest. The lyrics compel the listener to believe in their own potential, as well as the faithful power of God's promises.

The second verse continues with the natural imagery, this time comparing God's love to the warmth of a low winter sun, and the transformative power of that love to a fire that melts away the snow. The "wild soul" that is melted away by God's love is a powerful symbol of the darkness that can sometimes take hold during a period of waiting, and the shining light that can be found when hope is restored. The song concludes by returning to the seed metaphor, this time celebrating the life that grows from humble beginnings and acknowledging the transformative power of enduring faith.

Overall, Seasons is a beautiful and inspiring song that reminds listeners that even in times of waiting and uncertainty, there is still the potential for growth, transformation and ultimately a bountiful harvest.
