This is not uncommon. Check the credits in any Japanese movie/tv show/anime etc, there are always a few 'kakko ii' english names in the mix. Don't think for a second it means are they gaijin, they are always 100% monocultured-utopian-japenese.

I'm a 55-year-old Japanese music lover, but when I was young, "fusion music" became mainstream in Japan in the 1980s, and I also enjoyed copying in bands.
I was ignorant of the Japanese jazz scene in the 70's, so I realized again that there are many excellent Japanese jazz musicians. In that sense, I enjoy listening in real time, just like overseas listeners today.
By the way, Japanese people seem to like music, and the world's "music-related sales" seems to be second only to the United States ... lol
Although it is not known in the world, there are many excellent Japanese musicians, so please discover them! Lol

Not even 10 seconds in I got chills down my spine and I decided to add this to my "Absolute Jams" playlist. I am now halfway through scramble; writing this comment. I can't even explain how stellar this album is so far, I have just been sitting here stoned jamming out like no other. This is truly great music. We all hear stuff that sure sounds good and we are okay with, this is not that. This completely launched me into a different dimension. Imagine being a pinball inside of a pinball machine and being hit around all those obstacles, flashing lights and surprises around every corner not knowing whats going to happen next, but enjoying every and I mean EVERY second of it. @Foxbody Boogie Jazz is very much listenable haha. Jazz fusion is a really cool genre because it takes jazz writing and uses other instruments and sounds. The writing of this album is actually based on jazz theory, not typical funk writing at all.
